OT: when was the best
Time for music in your opinion? I'd say the 70s then the 60s, 80s and 90s were both pretty good. 2000s-pretty good but not as great the oldies imo.

80's Music for me.
70's and 80's for me
I play that stuff constantly...
There's been great, and awful, music made in all eras, but it definitely seems there are periods of 3 to 5 years where you have clusters of great music happening at once, and subsequent lulls of mediocrity. I'd say the following were timespans during which a lot of great music was being made:
1977-80
1984-86
1994-98
2004-07
It all depends on one’s taste and categories. For example, best decades for Jazz of all types? 40-80’s. Best decade for funk? The 70’s. Best decades for post-punk, hardcore punk, ska, new wave, synthpop, industrial? Late 70’s and 80’s. Best era for lounge and space age pop? 50’s and 60’s. The blues? 30’s-60’s. Stuff like thrash metal? 80’s and early 90’s. Hip-hop? 80’s, 90’s and perhaps recently (in my book). Rock music of all kinds? 50’s-90’s. Experimental music? Pretty much every decade lol. How about film score or world music? See where I’m going with this?
Every era has had its good and bad music. I myself normally to listen to a lot of music (of all kinds) from the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. But all in all, to my ears there was no golden age for music as a whole (I admit, the 80’s must’ve been the most fun period). Radio today rarely offers anything with an edge or groundbreaking, I’ll give you that. But great music does exist out there today... outside the mainstream. (Old grumps who cling on to the good ol’ days and refuse to give most new things a chance will naturally disagree.)
