With an alias of Galahad you're not being very, well, Knightly.
You do know that what you are doing is like picking on the infirmed even though some were asking for it? Couldn't you have used words like eclipsed, surpassed, transcended...
Well, because apparently, Captain Marvel hurt some guys this one time at band camp, and they've never forgiven her, so I used language I thought they could relate to.
I could very well have used some of those words, but i'm not altogether confident they would know what they mean!
Why would anyone care about domestic box office when Captain Marvel already won?
CM passed WW in just 16 days. What a shame, a member of the DC Trinity beaten by an unknown third tier character, who hasn't appeared in a previous movie like WW did. Pffffff...
"What a shame, a member of the DC Trinity beaten by an unknown third tier character,"
Let's bring some facts, shall we? While Wonder Woman is considered an icon, she's hardly as bankable as you make out her to be. First, her comic sales were always average. In fact, after doing some research, I found out that Iron Man was outselling her during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. A character who did not have any kind of cultural status, or even a TV appearance at that point, unlike her. Second, don't you find it weird that someone as iconic as Wonder Woman never had her own animated series? Even Iron Man got one in the 90s, but not her. Why is that? Next, this whole "third tier" character excuse has no meaning anymore. What brings people to see these movies is the brand, not the name. Marvel Studios is a brand, and any movie that has their logo on its poster is guaranteed to make money. It's irrelevant whether the character is popular or not. The same way Apple makes money by default whenever they release their new product.
"who hasn't appeared in a previous movie like WW did. Pffffff..."
First, she did appear. She was blatantly advertised at the end of Infinity War and then marketing tied her character to the MCU as a whole and said that she's going to be integral to the Endgame. Second, Wonder Woman first appeared in a critically panned movie that almost nobody liked. Captain Marvel was teased at the end of the highest-grossing superhero film in existence, which holds 8.4 on IMDB rating right now. Smell the difference?
Of course, Wonder Woman also had 3 years if a beloved TV series STILL being shown and was a mainstay of TWO beloved animated series that ran for years.
Correction: Wonder Woman's TV series was popular maybe for the first decade after it first premiered. After that, it was pretty much obscured. I never saw its reruns on television, ever. I found out about its existence only when it was mentioned on some old TV documentary about superheroes. And she had two (technically, it was only one, since JL and JLU are the same series) beloved series as a SUPPORTING CHARACTER. With that logic, Carol Danvers should be considered a household name too, since she appeared in two episodes of the very beloved X-Men series in the 90s.
The only reason this movie made money was because people probably thought they needed to see it to understand endgame. Even tho that not true at all. If they had put this out before Infinity War or after Endgame. I don't think would have done as well. And i doubt many will be coming back to see Brie Larson play a lifeless emotional-less soulless husk of a character with zero character development in Captain Bored-Off-My-Ass 2. I doubt there have a Big-Event to latch on to next time. Frankly this movie is worse than Thor 2. At least Hemworth isn't dull as shit.
WW is a legacy character thats a part of Americana. WW also got there first. A better comparison would be to see how WW's sequel compares to CM or CM's sequel domestically since the pro-feminist-first-big-budget-female-superhero-movie kinda wore off after WW's release.
And don't get me started on Catwoman. That movie could be made for $40 million today by just about any studio.
Doesn't need to. Its currently ahead, and is likely to cross $1billion before its time at the box office is done...
And even if by some miracle it did beat Wonder Woman domestically (it has no chance obviously), you'd probably go dig up another statistic with which to wave in front of Captain Marvel.
And i've got no axe to grind over Wonder Woman, I thought it was the first decent DC movie in years, and certainly better than everything Snyder had put out so far.
Wonder Woman came out in the summer, where it had to compete with movies like Dunkirk and Homecoming. Captain Marvel came out in march, where there were no other big movies playing, and it had no competition for almost a month. Wonder Woman was a follow-up to critically panned Batman v Superman. Captain Marvel was a follow-up + setup for two of the biggest superhero movies in existence. Yeah, I wonder why...
Honest Question: Do you think competition is really a factor, in these situations?
Is it ever really an "either-or," for the average moviegoer?
If you intend to see Wonder Woman, are you NOT gonna go, because Dunkirk, Homecoming, or anything else is out? Or are you going to (eventually) see it anyway?
I dunno. I never skip movies because they have "competition." I just choose *when* I'm going to see them, relative to which one I'm more interested in.
Anybody else?
Yup, pretty much how I do it, and i'm not what you would call loaded with cash either, but I saw Wonder Woman, Homecoming and Dunkirk all at the cinema, it was simply a case of staggering when I was going to see them, but see them all I did.
"Honest Question: Do you think competition is really a factor, in these situations?"
Obviously, yes, it is.
"Is it ever really an "either-or," for the average moviegoer?"
For the average moviegoer, it is the case. The average moviegoer doesn't go to movies regularly. So the average moviegoer will obviously go and see only a selective number of films.
"If you intend to see Wonder Woman, are you NOT gonna go, because Dunkirk, Homecoming, or anything else is out? Or are you going to (eventually) see it anyway?"
Most moviegoers go to movies only a few times during a year. You have to adjust the fact that not all of them have time to go and watch all the movies that are in theaters right now, not all of them have money to spend on movie tickets and everything that goes with with it, and not all of them simply have enough interest to watch multiple movies at once in theaters.
"I dunno. I never skip movies because they have "competition."
The key word here is "I". You're one person. You can't apply your view on that to everyone else.
"I just choose *when* I'm going to see them, relative to which one I'm more interested in.

There are hundreds of examples when one movie would make less money because there was another movie playing to its back. Hellboy 2 is the best example. It came out almost at the exact same time as The Dark Knight. And guess what? Hellboy 2 bombed. It dropped 70% on its second weekend, right after The Dark Knight started playing. The Dark Knight obviously drew more attention because it was bigger, starred more popular characters, and was received vastly better. Had Hellboy 2 come out in a month where it was the only blockbuster in theaters, it would definitely make more money than it did.
"Honest Question: Do you think competition is really a factor, in these situations?"
*****Obviously, yes, it is.
It's hardly "obvious," hence my question. Correlation/causality issues aside, it would be REALLY difficult to set up a rigorous experiment to try to figure this out.
"I dunno. I never skip movies because they have "competition."
*****The key word here is "I". You're one person. You can't apply your view on that to everyone else.
Sigh. Please point to the part where I "applied my views to everyone else." Did you miss the part where I simply asked an honest question, because I was wondering about. . .wait for it. . ."everyone else?"
*****There are hundreds of examples when one movie would make less money because there was another movie playing to its back. Hellboy 2 is the best example. It came out almost at the exact same time as The Dark Knight. And guess what? Hellboy 2 bombed.
And this is the classic causality error. There is NO WAY to know this. You could as usefully point out the times a much better-promoted movie underperformed against an upstart indie. There are too many variables, and while some assumptions are fairly safe (such as this example, for what it's worth), there are still questions.
You're also leaving out completely WHY there was no competition for Captain Marvel.
Contrary to a few neckbeards on Youtube, rival studios pay close attention to what people are ACTUALLY likely to watch rather than a few hurt feels on the internetz.
And they soundly concluded that Captain Marvel was likely to do very good business, and opening against it or in competition with it was only going to hurt everyone elses movie and not Marvels.
That's the answer you're looking for, the reason why there was no competition, because REAL market research and presales told rival studios all they needed to know, stay the FCUK away from Captain Marvel unless you want to get steam rollered by her.
Captain Marvel is about to eclipse Aquaman domestically, has beaten Wonder Woman Internationally..... and could even break through the Billion Dollar barrier.....
Provide the proof...earn credibility...insults stop.
It’s very easy. It’s why most rational people make fun of Alex Jones. And some other raging conspiracy theorist that whores it up in Twitter and in rallies in a vain cry for attention.
hahahahahaha guy , I get you are disappointed that CM is doing so well, what are you , a fan of DCEU, has it upset you that its crossing a billion? but please, don't act so desperate, its really embaressing
All DC movies are rated the same as Marvel movies, Marvel movies are more violent than DCEU movies and that's actually a fact, Iron Man , Winter Solider, Hulk, Infinity War, Avengers, Thor , Civil War all have violent themes much more so than any DCEU film made to date
Ok , thanks for sharing that insight, I could tell straight away you were a DCEU fan, not the brightest of sparks your lot are they, night night dum dum
I guess you can add this to the list of horrible movies that made money. Right next to Transformer 1-5, and Anything Star Wars since the Return of the Jedi. Wonder Woman was mediocre. But it was better than this shit. For one Gal Gadot Wonder Woman actually had something called "a personality".
