They know the character from five previous movies, which is an important first step. Frankly, CM's numbers are pretty impressive since there was no previous introduction at all.

Doubt it. Black Panther needed a 4-day weekend to get those numbers.

And if ScarJo had made political comments before the release of it then there'd be swarms of angry dudes swearing up and down that Marvel picked the wrong female superhero to give a movie to.

If there's not at least two other Avengers co-starring in it, it won't make close to half of what Captain Marvel made(and I'm a big Scarlett fan)

Weirdly, I've never really liked the Black Widow character. I kinda should because she aligns with a lot of things I usually enjoy in movies and comics, but the character always felt dialed-in to me. For some reason though I really enjoy Scarlet Witch, and even though I have no idea what you would build around her for a solo movie, I have more innate interest in that.
