What piece of culture should survive?

I don't know. I might have gone with a Chia Pet instead of that piece of music.

how about the forums on IMDb?

I thought the use of The lark Ascending was perfect. It is a great piece of music, and I presume it was used symbolically here in the mini-series.

It was a marvelous choice, actually; the song is based on the poem by George Meredith, which salutes both the spirit of man, and the beauty of the Earth. A poignant memorial for Planet Earth and humanity.

It was not part of the book - but a well-considered addition. At the conclusion of the book, after the Earth was destroyed, Karellen in his thoughts considered with warm regards and fondness the men he had known of Earth and inwardly saluted them. That inner monologue wouldn't convey well to cinema - but this part was well considered.

Totally agree! 

I would add that it was a fitting way for Milo, in one act and with one example, to celebrate and commemorate the existence of man...to make sure that we did not go quietly into the night. Karellen's understanding and, I think, his appreciation and awe of humanity's greatness (despite its foibles) was evident in the last scene.

I, for one, understood why "The Lark Ascending" was chosen and I think the director is to be praised for his inspired choice. I just want him to compensate me for the prices of the box of tissues I used up in the final ten minutes of the series!

I would say that we should leave that up to the discretion of whomever survives.

Porn, definitely the best description of our entire existence and culture.

That should be good for setting off a couple of intergalactic wars or religions.
