Did they mention where New Athens was located? I am assuming somewhere on the West Coast of North America (near LA or San Diego maybe?)
Also - anyone find it odd that the Mayor of New Athens just so happened to have a nuke, and no one else knew about it or was concerned about it (not even the Overlords?)
Have to agree. I like the idea of the premise but so much of it made no real sense. I dont get how one nuclear explosion destroys everything either unless we are to assume people were just launching nukes everywhere. I still dont even get whats the point of ending humanity problems if they knew it was going to all die out in a few decades anyway. Its actually a bit frustrating thinking back on it as a whole.
Marvel 2016: Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Daredevil, Civil War, Dr. Strange, Luke Cage!
Yes, it was an island I think in the Pacific. Really different in the book. It was more of a tranquil environment for people that wanted to keep the arts and sciences alive. When the children went off with the overlords the adults made a group decision to blow themselves up.

Correct.
Oh...the filming of the New Athens scenes was all done in Melbourne, Australia. Too many give-aways not to notice. The trams, the shot of the visitor's centre in Federation Square, the house the Gregsons move into (Early Victorian~Australian style) and the grand old Palais Theatre where the Jimmy Stewart movie is being shown (The Palais stands just outside of Melbourne in the suburb of St.Kilda).

So Melbourne famous for this and "On the Beach" ! I didn't quite understand mind why you couldn't watch old movies in a utopia. I'll have to read the book again I think.
The Overlords weren't concerned because they allowed the New Athens group to live out their lives separate from Utopia according to their own rules without interference.
