I almost walked out

I should have, but I shelled out $10.50. This was easily one of the worst films I've ever seen. Why was it so bad? extreme, gratuitous violence and explicit language, to an extreme. I'm not a prude by any means, but come on, the F and N words were used pretty much every 10 seconds throughout the film. And a shooting occurs literally every 45 seconds throughout the film. There is no reason to go to this extent with the violence and language except if you are trying to go for shock value. The cute kitten was the only saving grace. It's kind of a cute premise, A guy gets dumped by his girlfriend and he is feeling low. A stray kitten appears at his doorstep and he immediately falls in love with it. After returning home from meeting a friend, he finds his apartment vandalized and the kitten missing. His drug dealing neighbor gives him some clues as to who might have broken in and stolen the cat. He then enlists the help of his friend to retrieve the kitten from the drug dealers who committed the break in. With a different screenplay, they could have turned this movie into a really enjoyable funny story. However, even though it bills itself as a comedy, I found myself not laughing walking out of the theatre. Instead, I felt relief that the movie was finally over. At the showing that I attended, there were only 3 people including me. The two others were an elderly lady who was accompanied by a young girl who appeared to be about 9 or 10. this movie is really not appropriate for a 9 year old child, what are people thinking? Unbelievable.

why is he a troll, he has an opinion, one that happens to be correct

Its almost like you watched and reviewed the trailer. You mentioned nothing out side of the red trailer. I don't think you've been in a room with 3 people, let alone a movie theater in a really long time. I can understand not seeing the movie because it didn't hold you interest. I could understand an opposing view point, but to review something you didn't even watch is the worst and where is a $10 movie theater in America?

wordness to the turdness

reply

Outside of the big cities, most theaters are under $10.

I regularly see movies for $8.50.

reply

Both of your arguments are pure ridiculousness.

anthrax617, we have both been on IMDB for 11 years which means between us we have probably seen many, many movies over the years. Are you trying to say this movie did not have excessive violence and language? If that is the case, why did it get an R rating and not a PG13? I really would like someone who objects to my review of this film to at least admit that there is a large degree of violence and explicit language in this film. Can we at least agree on that? And beside that, I accept these two components in films and generally don't have a problem with it. I do however, question it when I feel the filmmakers have thrown these factors in ad nauseum for shock value, which is what I feel they did here. This film would probably have been enjoyable with most of those two things taken out.

reply

Rated R for violence, language throughout, drug use and sexuality/nudity.

Next time, do your research before you watch a film.

While I agree that there's a large amount of violence and language in the film, I knew what I was getting into by going to see an R rated feature.

This film would probably have been enjoyable with most of those two things taken out.

I totally disagree with you.

So reading the Bible, a work of fiction, makes you a life expert? That's a terrifying thought that you think you know everything about life from reading the Bible.

reply

So reading the Bible, a work of fiction
The Bible (and religious writings in general) don't fit the definition of fiction; they go in the religious section under non-fiction. Ask any librarian.

It's the question that drives us. I know the answer is 42.

smoothsagetx,I saw the full movie at Arclight Cinemas in Chicago last Friday, May 13th at the 1110am showing.

It must be fantastic to see a film on a Friday before noon. But please understand that is not the case for most people. I don't live that kinda lifestyle. I usually am busy with work on Fridays. It makes it difficult to understand your animosity at all now. You went to a matinee and left surprised that hardly anyone else was there. Where you expecting Star Wars crowds for Keanu? That's weirdly optimistic, kudos. Never stop believing!

I found the lack of Key and Peele cos-players distressing too but it didn't stop me from being able to enjoy the feature. Be careful though, you don't want to look like some weirdo. An episode of Blacklist or Game of Thrones is also considerably more violent than this feature. I am not a fan of gratuitous violence so it is beyond me why this feature and The Saw franchise have the same MPAA rating.

I enjoyed it.

Bloody hated this movie ,the only good thing in it was the kitten they should have featured it more. Movie was absolute shyte ,makes me wonder how movies like this get made in the first place.I'd rather see a Kevin Hart movie than this. And i don't think Kevin Hart is even funny.

reply

Well, reading about the movie first helps, like the rating and why. Also, reading reviews & message boards helps to find out if you'll actually like the movie. And you're wrong about the shootings. They were indeed NOT every 45 seconds. It's just a chance to gripe about how horrible a movie is. If YOU can do SO much better, then frickin write, produce, and direct one yourself so the world can *beep* all over your hard work.

reply

ericachristine, the violence and number of shootings shown in this movie was excessive, period. The Anna Faris shooting scene just went on and on and on, for no other reason than to add shock value, plain and simple. I stand by my original assessment, this movie was one of the worst films I've ever seen. Awful.

There's "Sinfield" funny and there's "Kings of Comedy" funny...this movie was "Kings of Comedy" funny and funny it was. If you don't like movies like the Kings of Comedy (or blue/black comedy) please stay away from movies like this...and please for the love of God, watch the trailers before plopping down in a seat. This way you don't become so disappointed that you feel the need to post reviews on types of movies you don't even like to begin with. I don't understand why you're reviewing something you'd never like to begin with. That's like me being a food critic and reviewing a meal from a restaurant with liver as the main dish...while knowing I hate liver. Some of you don't make any sense.

Now I don't like Sinfield but I respect his comedy because I am intelligent enough to know that some people like that type of comedy. I'm also intelligent enough not to go see a Sinfield standup....let alone write a review about him if he's not my cup of tea. That would be DUMB as hell and a dis-service to him and his style of comedy which people love. You probably saw a cute cat on the poster that day, disregarded the "R" rating and sat down to watch a movie you knew nothing about. Then have the nerve to say "it was the worst movie you ever saw". Of course it was....because its not the type of movie you typically enjoy. Next time do your research...all of you.

....and please only watch and review movies that fit your taste. I'd never be on IMDB posting about a love story when I know I don't like love stories. SMFH!??

reply

Who is Sinfield? Just curious...unless you mean Seinfeld.

@Pankra001

Seriously? What you described the film as is pretty much what most R-rated films have been like for the past 40-some years. That's what MOST films for adults are like now. Sounds like you don't go to theatres much anymore, or you just didn't bother to do your homework on this film before you even saw it. And the film was funny, too. Apparently it wasn't your kind of funny, though.

reply

Literally every 45 seconds.
Literally.

They're LITERALLY wasn't a shooting every 45 seconds. Please do the world a favor and purchase & use a dictionary. :D
