Do not make the mistake I did and think this film's comedy has anything to do with cats. Keanu could have been a puppy or a hamster or a parakeet for all that the movie's humor had to do with its titular animal. This is not a cat movie.
If you have great love for George Michael or Key and Peele, you might like this movie. It had a few laughs, but in between those laughs were gory murders filmed in such a way as to maximize horror, barely-likable secondary characters with veiled motives that make no sense at the movie's end, and an unfulfilled theme of trying to find one's true self. That last failing was actually the most unsettling. When you make one of the movie's main themes the search for true self then end with the two heroes
in prison,
well… That's a pretty big, ugly Fail.
A decent script could have taken the same premise and actors and delivered something funny and effective. Key and Peele have innate likability. I wish them better luck next time.
