Why did he get fired

And how did his work place know he said "I'm dominating there" because Wyatt was the only person to hear Christian say that. Did Wyatt betray him for some reason? So that he'd get fired and he could "save Christian" and get him out of the city?

A lot of people have different theories. Mine was, at first, that Wyatt is just sick, and because Christian was such a good person and friend, the trust he put in Wyatt is what took the sickness away at the end. At least for the moment. But some people think Wyatt was actually infected, and now a threat to Christian. But Wyatt doesn't know that he's the threat. Or another theory, that Wyatt and Christian were the same person. I thought that sounded too cliche and too fight Club. But the work thing backs that up a little. Christian would never tell anyone else but his good friend "I was getting pushed around at work. I felt like a wuss. Now I am really dominating at work" then the next day he gets fired and has a note on bis computer "good job dominating a$$hole" and she said half his department was let go. But only he was. So maybe they were the same person. And he doesn't remember saying that to other people. Or the last theory, that it all was real. He got fired because someone at his job was infected and read his mind or heads him say that and did it to mess with him. And at the end Christian wasn't infected or maybe he was. Either way Wyatt wasn't sick. Wyatt stile either maras car or someone's car they indicated at the end. That doesn't mean he hurt or killed mara or someone infected but he did steal what looked to be maras car. And mara never came to get it.

What do u guys think?

This movie was interesting but I think they put too much effort into scenes of their friendship than they did the actual creepy stuff. Which left too many questions and theories because it wasn't the right amount of vague it was too vague. It should have been a bit longer, cut some of the drunken bromance scene or the scenes with Christian and mara, the hospital scene. All too long and pointless. And show a bit more of what ever was going on. Whether he's supposed to be mentally ill or not. Don't have o over do it, but we got maybe 25 or less of actual creepy stuff and info on that, the rest was fluff. I get we needed a good scene or two to show their friendship because that's important but they kinda over did that instead, ultimately leaving us hanging with questions.

I think you are trying way too hard to make this a horror movie. It was pretty clear that Wyatt was mentally ill. They focused on the friendship because that was the meat of the story. There were just enough horror elements to give us a taste of Wyatt's reality and make him a sympathetic character.

Christian losing his job has nothing to do with any demons. He was hopped up on self-actualization books and probably acting like a complete douche at work, over-compensating for his cowardice.

Exactly how I understood that scene?he had his ex-girlfriend record motivational mantras for him to listen to so he could "be less of a pussy" or whatever, and spent all day listening to them even a year after they split. Him telling Wyatt he is "dominating" shows that he likely ACTS dominating at work, and his co-workers found it obnoxious and self-absorbed.

Mara even starts a sentance about how people in the office don't like his attitude, one of several different attempts to explain why he is getting fired?she doesn't really settle on one because she likes him too much to say "everyone thinks your an @$$hole and you are alienating everyone, so you have to go".

More than anything, it sets up his ability to let go of all of his fears and self-absorbtion to risk his life to help "a friend in need" (even if it's totally mental to actually take that much of a risk in real life, that climax is what makes the movie that much more humane and hard-hitting).

I do disagree with the assessment that this is not a horror movie, though! It's just not the horror movie that shows its twisted, cracking, deformed face very often at all. Even though the moments of full-blown horror were very sparse, the -constant- sense of dread was as oppressive and real as any of the best horror films.

Just to refer to the other thread where I replied to the OP by riding your post, you and I are watching the same movie, I think! :)

That was my thought as well.

Christian is over-compensating for his lack of confidence and courage, to the point that he lost his job. His personal pain at failing, when he believed he was "improving himself", was painful to watch.

I think the end scene is a combination of his quality as a friend (which is exceptional) combined with his indifference toward continued existence (he mentioned he attempted suicide before beginning the self-help therapy).

It's a rough film. Very humane.

This is exactly right.

Also I'm sure that the whole "dominating" theory is one he'd often shared with co-workers, advising them how they too can stop being lame. Just because we don't see him do it doesn't mean we shouldn't infer a pattern in his behavior that more than adequately explains the situation.

He acted like a complete douche even when he wasn't at work.

ditto, my thoughts exactly.
One can easily imagine him doing so.
this also show how the movie is clever in observing that a man perception of himself is really different from how others perceive you!
his self help becomes a superficial brag or macho attitude that he thinks is helping him whilr actually is the opposite.
mara was the only one close enough to see through that surfacing attitude and see him as tge insecure he was but a good person and a good friend. she senses this.
I really like this movie even tough I had to listen dialogues over to get what was being sad!

Very interesting. I hadn't considered the duality explanation. They both had ex fortified we don't learn much about. Wyatt never shows any material proof of his old life. But the friend liked Wyatt. Is that so he visits in hospital?

This was ultimately a sweet movie about friendship. It wasn't cliched, which is saying something these days.

Because the aggressive hyper macho persona he presented at work made his fellow employees think he's an *beep* He was despised by everyone but Mara.

He got fired because he's an *beep* I don't know how Wyatt and Mara were able to put up with him.

The thing is..."dominate" was in quotes which suggests someone snitched on him for using that word!

Coz lifes too short to listen to Madlib

"Dominate" sounds like a buzz word he probably used incessantly. I imagine him acting like Charlie Sheen with all his Tiger Blood braggadocio. Try working with that in the next cubicle every day. They also had that silent quick montage where he was clearly having an antagonistic relationship with another guy at work, which I took as emblematic of his work life. He was actually a sad character and not far-fetched at all.

I think his risking his life at the end had more to do with friendship and a surrendering of himself (not dominating) as opposed to being suicidal. Just before the climax, Christian tells Wyatt he wants to join the army so he won't be scared when someone sticks a gun in his face. The climax was the gun in his face.

This was a really well written, acted, smart little story about male friendship. Nicely done. I never found myself bored or zoning out which happens 80% of the time watching far bigger Hollywood movies.
