Couple of questions re Episode 8

1. So does episode 8 actually confirm that Ray is actually an undercover agent from the FBI on the Blue Rose case? The reason I ask is because otherwise why would Ray call Philip Jeffries after he thought he killed Bad Cooper? And also, why would he tell him that he saw something in Cooper that could explain everything that's been happening (and he must have meant in the Blue Rose case, right?)?

2. So I take it that the prison Governor was actually the one who had secretly given Ray a gun before setting him free (on Ray's request maybe, as per above?) and had put blanks in Bad Cooper's gun (maybe also on Ray's request?). Or maybe he did it on his own accord to get rid of Bad Cooper for good, so he doesn't blackmail him in the future?

What do you guys think? 😎

1. In one of the previous episodes Ray said that he got an order from Phillips to kill Evil Cooper. In the latest episode he called Phillips immediately after he shot Cooper. This confirms that Ray works for Phillips. But... we don't know who Phillips works for nowadays. He used to work for FBI 25 years ago, but they lost contact with him. He could be working for anyone, or maybe just for himself.

When Ray said he saw something in Cooper, he was probably talking about the blob with Bob's face that appeared on Cooper's chest while woodsmen were smearing blood all over him.

2. This is very possible. If Governor did this, it was a smart move.

reply

1. Yeah good point, I had forgotten he had said that about the order to kill Evil Cooper. I genuinely don't remember who he said it to though.

I've rewatched the scene when Ray calls Phillips and this is what he tells him:

"I think he's dead but he's found some kind of help, so I'm not 100 per cent and I... I saw something in Cooper. It may be the key to what this is all about".

This implies that he's now helping Phillips in his investigation, although as you well have pointed out, we no longer know who Phillips is working for now.

2. Yeah I thought it was a smart move from the Governor. He probably knew that it was in Ray's interest to get rid of Cooper, so he facilitated him a gun. I would be keeping a gun by my bed if I were the Governor, as I'm sure Bob will make a revenge visit whenever he get's the chance.

In the second episode, right before Cooper kills Darya, he plays her a recording of a phone conversation between her and Ray Monroe. Ray said that he got another call from Jeffries, and since he ended up in prison, it's up to her to kill Cooper now.

reply

Thanks, I remember now. Supposing Ray was a top secret undercover agent, that means Darya was too, and if that was the case, I guess she wouldn't have been killed so easily by EC, right?

reply

I agree with you all in this thread. I just have to ask this O/T question. Bob whom we saw in the blob, was it the late Frank Silva image or was it his rumored replacement?? I couldn't tell.

reply

It's Silva's stock footage

reply

Thanks. I don't want to see a new Bob. Frank freaked me out!!

Blanks make noise, so more likely he took out the firing pin or otherwise sabotaged the gun. I'm not sure how Ray pulled this off. If the warden wanted Evil Cooper dead he could have killed him himself. Remember that he didn't because EC had the dog leg leverage on him. Maybe Ray had access to the car at some point off screen without EC there. Or maybe some guard helped Ray out without the warden's knowledge.

reply

I don't think it was that easy for the warden to kill Evil Cooper himself, not inside the jail anyway. And like you say, EC had the dog leverage on him so he couldn't risk doing it himself. No, far easier to get someone else to do it, someone who is also fearful for his own life, which Ray was. So I don't think it was a guard who helped Ray out without the warden's knowledge, rather it was the warden's idea to facilitate Ray with the gun and help him rig EC's gun.

reply

If that's the case the warden would have to be assuming that the dog leg scenario wouldn't kick in if someone killed EC away from the prison.

reply

Good point!

reply

I agree with both your points.
Ray is working for Phillip Jeffries, but we don't know if it's still FBI or if Phillip has his own thing going. Extra curricular activities.

What dirt does Cooper have on the warden? Does Cooper really have accomplices who will reveal the warden's secret if Cooper dies, or do you think he was bluffing on that?

reply

He probably wasn't bluffing imo. I mean, he seems to have accomplices, doesn't he? For example, that man in the office, the one who took out the red envelope, which resulted in Ike the Spike killing the woman who failed having Cooper/Dougie killed, ...well that all must have something to do with Evil Cooper, because it's mainly in his best interest to get rid of Dougie because he knows he's really Cooper, who has escaped the Black Lodge. So yeah, I think Evil Cooper does have accomplices imo.

Good theories all. Hopefully we'll find out in episode 9, or 10 or.....

reply

Well I hope so. The intrigue is killing me, lol!

That makes two of us.

1 - Yes, Ray is working with Jeffries. However, given that Jeffries was in the Lodge [FIRE WALK WITH ME] and disapeared again, I assume that Ray isn't working with the "original" Jeffries but Jeffries' Doppelganger.

2 - Also correct.

reply

Good point. Doppelganger Jeffries makes perfect sense. I wonder of David Bowie secretly filmed a scene or two before he passed away, and in the finale we get to see the real Jeffries freed from the Black Lodge or wherever he is. I would have loved to have seen that. Also I would love to see whatever happened to the Chris Isaac character from Fire Walk With Me, who disappeared in the trailer park. I wonder if he won't be making a surprise appearance too.

reply

Yeah I want to see Bowie' new footage [if any].

But I have to take my hat off to Lynch. He is able to use stock footage of 2 deceased people [Bob and Briggs] and if I didn't know better I would say that he used it deliberately. But knowing that they are indeed dead, the way Lynch uses that footage is creepy as hell and still quite artistic. The man is able to to a lot with a couple of eggs.

I also entertain the theory that the man Evil Coop talks to via that FBI techno device and doesn't recognize [he says "who is this"] could well be either Chris Isaak or Sutherland. Chris Isaak's character is talked a lot in Twin Peaks, so it would make sense.
