Question about the dubbing:

A friend of mine said he saw this movie and that the English voices were "overlapping" with the Russian ones. As in, when a character was speaking in English another voice was speaking in Russian over the English voice.

Is this really the case? As it would be a big let down for me.

Worse than that was the subtitles. Worst attempt at translation since infinity began. Spoiled it for me

I hate dubbing in films in live action films, it just looks and sounds awful. Personally I think the film didn't even need a subplot in America, the story about a deadly female sniper would have been compelling on its own.

If the filmmakers were so adamant to have the American subplot they should have just hired some English speaking actors for the roles.

The "American subplot" wasn't an invention of the filmmakers. Read Major Pavlichenko's Wikipedia page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyudmila_Pavlichenko; she was, all through the war and after, the very real deal.

(and I tried six different variations on BBCode syntax for the link without the preview page rendering it properly; DAE know what I was doing wrong?)

the overlapping thing is in the begining when they're in an international conference of some sort and things are being crossed-translated (within the context of the scene, obviously). The rest of the time there's no overlapping...

However they seem to have dubbed a couple of characters' dialogues (mostly the reporters in the US subplot part IIRC) to a very bad english dub that's not in synch with the actor with TERRIBLE voices and accents... I have NO clue why the dubbed those that way... They were probably originally in russian but for some reason decided to dub them into a *beep* quality english. Wrong choice IMO.

Other than that, usually, the actors themselves speak in english when needed and do it well (or not depending on the character).

U find a lot of films from the east now have very bad subtitles and overdubbing they are using robots now which is worse than before at least when humans do it they make the effort but leaving it to a computer robot makes a complete mess
