1. I know Pat got his hand mangled by holding on to the gun, but how exactly did he get it almost severed? Clearly bouncers should be able to grab a gun out of someone's hand without having to use an axe.

2. Who was Gabe throughout the movie? I know he helps them later, but I don't remember him.

People say almost severed in reference to Pat's arm because of how deeply they cut him. It was practically dangling at first glance.

Gabe was the hesitant employee that was given the red strings, that survived to the end and asked for the police.

I thought the big metal door cut his arm in the panic of them trying to shut the door as they tried to grab the gun and his arm.

Yes, I think it was gore for the sake of gore. Luckily that was pretty much the most disgusting scene in the film.
