I think the point is that both of them; Mickey & Heidi were just using him.
Especially Heidi who is new in town and doesn't have real friends,
so she uses him to hang out with people, and be in a crowd where she's the pretty one. [since there's a lot of competition in LA- that's mentioned]
And clearly, she had no intention other than fooling around and

However, with Mickey, things went towards different direction.
She actually fell in love with him. And there was also one very
significant conversation in her life that lead her towards him.
That was the one with that guy she works for, when she was meant
to stage a phone call. He gave her some pretty harsh truths about
herself, but that was also insight that something's gotta change.
Also, that time she looks at his FB videos she sees he's not just
some goofball, when it comes to love but real deal, he also finds
to find special someone, just like she does. Sure. life and love
(and some shows)are less than perfect, but it's the general view
about it that connects people in the end, (and that's what they have).

Oh, the humanity...
