Table Reading
What was the point in inviting Gus if they weren't going to take anything he said serious?. If that was me I'd get annoyed too then just give up. Would you get annoyed or just let the writers get on with it?.

shareHonestly, Gus was very immature in that scene. Yeah, it's fine that he got a little annoyed, but he didn't have to act out. When you're that low on the totem pole, the thing to do is be humble and work your way up even if it's unfair. Taking criticism is how people take you seriously. Gus didn't seem to know his place (this coming from someone who's just settling into his first job after college).
Gus kept suggesting the same thing about burning people, and the producer got annoyed because that's all he was bringing. She saw through what he was doing by constantly suggesting it. If he would have played it cooler, maybe offered different suggestions and observed how the writing process works, the meeting would have gone a lot better.
As for why they brought him on: it could have been because they were considering him as a writer and thought he should learn how the writing process works, maybe they thought he could bring some more ideas to the table (even though the suggestions he had weren't right), and maybe they wanted to see if he was able to take criticism. Obviously if you were going to work for the woman he worked for, you'd have to have thick enough skin to take it, which he doesn't seem to have.
Gus is a drama queen. Normal people don't create or foster so many public uprisings in their day to day existence. Dude needs help with impulse control as much as Mickey. At least she was finally honest about it - while making the wrong choice once again in a matter of seconds.
It is unique the way the writers seems to turn characters around from sympathetic and likable to pathetic and loathsome almost on an episodic basis. Interesting device. Look forward to S2.
haha..Gus was not even in entertainment, let alone a writer, he was a tutor!!
His dreams were just starting to come true and he was acting as if he were Aaron Sorkin or something.
You're right, there was no point to inviting Gus to that meeting, because he doesn't appear to be very talented.
