Am I supposed to hate Gus and Micky?

Because, I do. However, I'm only on episode 7.

reply

If you hate them now you will by the end they don't change

reply

I think that's the point, it is dark comedy because they are all very *beep* up. And they weren't supposed to suddenly be not *beep* up any longer

reply

There's a difference between being *beep* up and being completely unbearable. I know *beep* up people that I enjoy spending time with because amid their imperfections, they can still be relatable and their brokeness can be endearing. Not these two. i wouldnt call them unbearable (except for the girl, Ive dated these type of rude, narcissitic and manipulative without realizing it girls and never again!) but not likable at all.

reply

Micky is a real *beep* in Episode 7.

But I kind of like it when characters are *beep* one moment and great people later on -- it's realistic!

Agreed. If find it funny (in kind of a disheartening way) that people dislike realistic characters. These people are a hot mess. It happens in real life all the time.

reply

I dunno about you, but by the end i ended up really liking mickey to a degree and just flat out hating gus

the ending really pissed me off for this reason, he was a complete *beep* to her and treated her so bad, and then suddenly im supposed to find that final scene romantic or something?

reply

I agree, Gus was a real p.o.s. That ending was infuriating. All that being said, Mickey is a train wreck and a real attention whore. Overall, I thought the series was meh. It fell flat and it seemed forced at times.

reply

I felt the same way. Mickey at least is trying to be a better person, even if she fails at it most of the time. Gus thinks he's this good guy and that he's way smarter than he is and has zero situational awareness and treats other people like crap and is just generally unbearable.

reply

I don't know, if Gus is too nice he'll be deemed fake. The guy can't see his potential self-worth or he's called as *beep* The guy can't even like his own interest without seeming bland or boring. Dude is probably still stuck in his repressed South Dakota ways. To be honest, Gus and Mickey seem to bring out the bad in each other. I mean, when he was with his friends making theme songs to movies he seemed like a totally cool dude, even at Mickey's friend's party he seemed fine. I do think it was an idiotic move to have him kiss her at the end. It would have been much better if they had just split and saved the outcome for season 2.

reply

Micky is way too troubled and selfish imo. At least Gus has s Me redeemable qualities.

reply

like ? Cause I can't find any.

reply

If anything Mickey is the one with all the redeemable qualities. She's a mess, but she's a depressed addict. She's self centred, can be rude but she's not malicious or passive aggressive or just plain *beep* NASTY and BORING like Gus. I don't know why ANYONE would be FRIENDS with him, let alone be in a RELATIONSHIP with him

can be rude

Out of curiosity what do you think "redeeming" means?

reply

Definitely. At least one of them. For me Gus is easier. Though I could see why Mickey might frustrate others.

reply

I don't know, I hate both of them. Gus is entitled as hell and Micky is unoriginal and narcissistic. Their friendship to me always came off as a gay guy and a lesbian to be honest. I don't get their romantic connection whatsoever.

reply

they're suppose to be realistic characters. did you want the how i met your mother crew or something? all *beep* happy go lucky and *beep* i've never met people like that in my entire life. in real life, everybody pretends to be nice until things dont go their way or they're done using you. then it seems like they have no patience anymore.

reply

Seems more like you are a very unlikeable guy.

reply

There are scenes meant to manipulate you into caring for them, but they're written poorly, like a sociopathic cartoon with no understanding of empathy. Gillian Jacobs helps to counter that somewhat for Mickey.

It first amazed me that a series called Love was debuting after Valentine's Day, but when I saw the first episode, I understood why.

It's a decent enough platform for some good lines, but I gave up on expecting anything from the characters early on.

All roads lead to truth if you're willing to travel honestly.

reply

If you hate them now, you'll despise them by the end of the season.
