Will never beat A Nightmare on Elm Street
I haven't seen this movie yet, but you will never find a scarier character than Freddy!

shareI don't know about that... After Nightmare 1, he wasn't really scary as they made him delivery jokes non-stop... it got popular... but less scary.
He sort of became a victim of his own success. I watched a documentary on it and they were cranking them out so fast thus the decline in quality.

I agree he wasn't scary after the first one! I meant the first one! I was 12 when I first saw it and it scared the pants of me!
shareAgreed. Before he became too comedic 'hello my pretty' Freddy was the scariest fictional character of all time!
shareI hate that he eventually became more of a comedian than a slasher, but he's still tied with Pinhead as my number 1 favorite horror character. When I saw the very first Elm Street movie as a kid, he scatted the HELL out of me and I liked it! He even gave me nightmares afterwards.
shareEh, much as I liked pre joker Freddy I could name characters from HP Lovecraft that make him seem like a teddy bear by comparison( since you mentioned all fiction and not just movies).

The Bye Bye Man is better than The Dream Child..i'de give it that. Freddy's Dead wasn't good, but that's a tough call.
shareI always found the Freddy character to be more humorous than scary.
