Cousin

I'm the episodes in, and I think half of the words used are the word "cousin." Good lord, it's frickin' annoying.

Comments like yours are even more frickin' annoying. It is the script, if it bothers you that much then watch something else!

I'm glad we can have rational discourse regarding our disagreeing viewpoints and walk away still friends.

Referring to her 'cousin' is a style choice. Complaining about that would be the same as complaining because her hair is too short or too long, or that a man parts his hair on the left side instead of the right, or that you wish they had closed offices instead of open offices. The producers, writers, and costume designers did what they did, learn to appreciate what is presented instead of making silly, trivial complaints like how often they mention 'cousin.'

Aside from it being an annoyingly trivial complaint, there is a valid reason to script it 'my cousin' instead of 'Superman'. The TV show is about Supergirl, her using the term 'cousin', who everyone knows is Superman, helps keep the focus on Supergirl and not on Superman. That should not need to be explained.

I took your advice. After Ep 6, I quit. This show is bad, and not in a so-bad-it's-good way. The Flash is also bad.

reply

When I talk to people about my sibling I refer to my sibling as my brother, hardly ever call him by his given name. Most people do that with family members.

reply

I'm just the opposite. Names are more important that how they're related to me.

reply

Agreed.

reply

Saying "cousin" is probably better than saying, "My father's brother's son" every episode.

reply

Couldn't she just call him Superman or Clark? She's always talking to people who either know him personally too or know of him.

reply

She could, but she doesn't. There is nothing at all unusual about referring to one's cousin as "my cousin." It is moronic to make a big deal out of it. If any viewers get hung up on that point then they probably aren't mature enough to watch this show.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, either, to a certain extent. I just feel like they do it too often.

reply

If she's going to call him anything it should be "Kal El" after all that's his real name and how she knew him on Krypton.

reply

About 4 or 5 episodes in, they cool off on feeling the need to reference Superman at least once in every scene.

reply

I call my sisters my sister most of the time when I am talking about them.. .only if its important do I single them out by name, and I call my parents my parents or my Mom or Dad as opposed to their names on most occasions... and I am well into my 40's. Its a personal choice... or a way you were brought up. Some people call their parents and siblings by their names some don't. Odd thing to get annoyed over.

I think her calling him her cousin is a great idea. It "world" it helps reduce the risk of her calling him Clark or Superman at in appropriate times which may key in some who may over hear.

Half the words? You obviously don't find extreme exaggeration frickin' annoying.

And just how many episodes are "I'm the episodes in..."?

reply

Remember, underneath it all, Kara thinks of him as "the baby Kal-El."

He may now be a hunky 33-year-old, but she still thinks of him as the baby she baby-sat back on Krypton.
