Thought this was Supergirl?

Why do we need superman in it? Is the CW afraid that Supergirl cant carry her own show?

reply

Supergirl say it best herself.

Interviewer:Some fans have been worried that introducing Superman would take the focus away from Supergirl, on her own show. Was that something that you worried about, and how do you feel the show handled it?

BENOIST: I wasn’t worried about it. I thought it was the natural progression of our story. We spent last season really solidifying how she wanted to approach being Supergirl and being a hero. He’s her only living family member, and I think that’s kind of a necessary relationship to explore, for both characters. I believe it really rewarded us, as a cast. You not only get to see how amazing the relationship between Kal-El and Kara is, but he has relationships with everyone on the show. He has history with a lot of them, and some of them he meets for the first time and it’s hilarious, like with Winn (Jeremy Jordan). It’s only going to benefit the show, and Tyler Hoechlin is the man to do it. He’s perfect in the role, I think.

Because the fans whined endlessly that Superman just had to be in the show. And now that he's in the show they're whining endlessly because he is.

Some people are never satisfied.

You make the mistake of assuming the same fans are making the same complaints.

It's not a Martian Manhunter show either, and yet he's in every episode.

They know she can't, thats why they threw her into the arrowverse.

The second Supergirl and Superman joined it, it because the Superverse.

I moved my original post here.

Actually for a TV series with a strong female main character that supposed to be politicaly correct I find it strange that they added Superman as a regular co-star.

That's just my two cents.

There's a whole list of reasons for all the changes, but Superman is easy to explain, or more accurately there are various possible reasons any combination of which has a part in forcing/allowing him.

CBS wanted more focus on the girl power and drama, CW wants stronger comic ties to fit better alongside and occasionally in the Arrowverse.

DC/Warner wouldn't allow Superman when they wanted focus on Batman v. Superman, but after it's less than strong fan reaction they decided not to not anger more fans by prohibiting Superman from appearing in Supergirl.

Warner wouldn't allow the show to use him when CBS had sole rights to the show, but chose to allow him with it now on a channel they have joint benefits and control.

Everyone knew they could only go so long, and arguably went too far already, with not seeing Superman when he was there, as well as keep making up ways to explain why he isn't for others (especially when a Kryptonian army is the main threat), and disable him other times.

Could be one, or all of those reasons. But while the writers certainly are (at least mostly) behind the girl power thing, that doesn't mean they didn't want the permission to use Superman.
