Basically the Babadook but swap addiction for grief

I'm kidding, sort of, the other difference is that the monster was ostensibly real in this one. Or was it?

Kind of weird how the mom pointlessly sacrificed herself, would have been nice of the daughter to come up with her blow torch idea before it came to that.

Those are all my thoughts, this movie was okay but kind of underwhelming.

It was very much like The Babadook but the acting was so much better.

I don't expect to cry when watching monster films but I did in this on more than 1 occassion. The mother passed out in the bathroom and her daughter finds her. The brought me to tears.

The actors in The Babadook just annoyed me.

She didn't mean for her sacrifice to be needless. It just turned out that way. Try and imagine emotionally where your mind would be in this situation. The point was she was willing to give her own life just so her daughter could have a chance at surviving. Which is amazing considering their earlier relationship. The director and actors wanted this to be more than a standard monster movie.

I thought the same thing! Toward the beginning I thought they would reveal that it was literally some kind of dream, and the mother had murdered the daughter, or something horrific like that. Idk. But I definitely think the monster was a symbol.

I really liked the movie.

After the first 20 min, I immediately predicted that this movie is going to be similar to The Babadook; symbolizing child abuse and all that.

Glad I was not the only one who felt similarities between the two films lol.
