I know Zoe Kazan is 33 but she literally looks 20 (check her Instagram if you don't believe me)...playing a mother of a 15 year old looks ridiculous..It's the same with Felicity Jones playing a mother on A Monster Calls...
shareWell I think they might be going for a young mother look. Which would fit her. So I think the casting isnt bad. But you are right, if someone goes in blind, they would probably think they are sisters at first.

sharei have never seen Zoe in anything before and when i watched this movie it was 100% believable to me that she was playing a very young mother (which is what the character was). she really did an amazing job in this film. the daughter did as well (even though she got too whiny/crying during several parts).
shareHer character probably gave birth as a teenager. I'd say 16ish. The little girl looked to be around 10 or 11. So, Zoe's character in the present would be in her late 20s, which she does look like it.

When I originally watched, somehow the backstory flew over my head and I thought they were sisters. However as the movie progressed, it did become more believable as she was meant to be viewed as a young mother.

Going by the people that try to give this clusterfark a excuse, she was a addict. IMHO she should've looked 45 at the age 35. Zoe couldn't even do a good druggie/alcoholic well. They should've cast Lindsay Lohan in this role.
