Because it kinda sucks? It feels and looks like a low budget B-movie. The acting by the girl and mom are the only things making this watchable. The story is generic nonsense and not even scary for most children.

very slow - I can appreciate a horror movie relying on atmosphere, the best horrors do that as opposed to cheap jump scares- but this one doesnt have much, and there is a limit you can show a dark road in the woods with heavy rain before it gets really boring.
plot was so thin the concept of an alcoholic mother taking her daughter to her grandparents when having an accident on the road a stuck in there when attacked by monster is pretty much more than the rest of it. everything is stretched out for 10 minutes longer than necessary. you can sum up the rest in 5 sentence.
the characters were very unlikable - mother was a selfish bitch half the time, and generic self-sacrificing loving mother the other, daughter was very whiny and acted like a 5 years old up until the end crying about every little thing, then became a badass the last 10 minutes.
lots of melodramatic whining from both side. idiotic decisions. bad looking monster which was a slimy shadow most of the time, but once shown, you wish it had stayed that way.
didnt feel the drama and didnt like the horror elements.. only things I gave it some pluses is it tried to create an atmosphere and the unusual relationship between mother and daughter, even if it failed with both at the end imo.
I mostly agree with you. However, I will say that the daughter showed some unbelievable resilience and responsibly at the beginning of the film (packing and planning logistics for both of them), which vanished during the midsection and resurfaced toward the end. Every character in the film made such frustratingly bad decisions it became comical at best and unwatchable at worst. Annoying movie with decent potential. Could have been pretty good if the characters weren't so unlikeable and just plane 1980s slasher idiotic. Oh well.
