This movie was a box office bomb. I GUARANTEE it's due to marketing
I love Lonely Island. I'm a HUGE, REALLY BIG fan of them. And I didn't know this movie existed until, one day, seemingly at random, I decided to go and see if they'd released any new funny song on their Youtube channel. (I found Finest Girl this way: SO FREAKING GOOD)
But anyway, back to the point. Even after listening to Finest Girl and falling in love with it immediately, I STILL didn't quite know I was watching something from a movie.
It wasn't until the next DAY that I realized there was a Lonely Island movie, and that it had already been out -- for months!
I can't help but wonder if the reason why people didn't see this movie is NOT because it didn't "sell well" (as in, people passed on it), but because nobody even knew they'd come out with anything.
The marketing just didn't penetrate the 2016 election, I guess. I never heard a peep about it until I found out about it by accident. I wonder if having "Lonely Island" in the title would've made it do better. Who knows now in hindsight though, right?
