Any traders out there?

Is this a good movie about our biz? Or Hollywood schlock?

reply

It remains to be seen. Its will be a good movie if it shows Wall Street Traders as dogs--t.

Voters in Britain just voted to leave the EU no matter the cost to the man in the street. Their attitude is "sending a message" to politicians and banks doesn't work. What works is pain for everyone especially bloodsuckers.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

Rookie trader here. Haven't watched it yet, but at the same time it looks really exciting, it looks kinda boring. Will probably watch it when I have nothing else to do.

All of these sites require sign-up and provision of credit card details. Are you aware of any that don't?

Not in the biz but live in NYC and have family who are...saw it last night and thought it was crappy...whoever writes these scripts has no idea how WS people actually behave...maybe they were just bad actors :-)

I work on Wall Street, this film was OK but some parts were no too accurate.

SPOILER ALERTS:

The firm was accurate about the pitch for the deal and the roadshow.

However, the film did miss the mark when it came to the IPO and insider information.

OK, Since this is a biz topic, looks like a good place to ask my question.
Contains a Spoiler so...
Would the fired hacker tech retracting her story (the leak) make any difference? After the cat is out of the bag sort of thing.

No, It is all about confidence levels. No one would give a *beep* about her the next day.

It's crap. As a trader, none of the trading scenes seemed real. It looked like Wall Street described by an outsider.
Oh yeah, some token character said "there's no ask" during when the stock was diving...it should've been "there's no bid". That's so *beep* that they left this in.

I've watched 'The Big Short' several times now. Is that an accurate depiction of Wall Street traders?

I can't help but feel like TBS is saturated with testosterone for a reason - the WS world is dominated by men. At the same time, it's difficult to write a script for something that sounds authentic without doing just what 'The Big Short' did. That is, interject testimony from more entertaining people in more entertaining settings. They can break down the jargon and simplify the story line for us non-finance folk.

I've noted the exact same thing. Would've been fine if there was no ask so you could skyrocket it...
