Secret Of The Ooze Vs. OOTS

Which TMNT II is better, 1991's Secret Of The Ooze or this year's OOTS?

I quite enjoyed OOTS but am not sure if I'd say it's better than SOTO. I find both have their strengths and weaknesses. SOTO has the nostalgia factor, the animatronic costumes and I'm one of the few who prefers Tokka and Rahzar to Bebop and Rocksteady, but like other fans I dislike the heavily toned down feeling and wish the edgy tone of the original had been kept (and yes, I hate how easily Super Shredder dies). OOTS has the feel of the original 1987 cartoon series and feels like a live-action episode of it. In some ways the action and fight scenes are better but I think SOTO probably has a better story overall.

I love SOTO. It's just a fun movie. I liked OOTS but it got messy in the final third. And I hated what they did with Shredder.

Same and also the Technodrome looking like a giant junk heap instead of the Death Star on wheels like it was in the 1987 series.

I have a lot of nostalgia for SOTO and even with the flaws I feel like I'm 4/5 years old again whenever I watch it.

go ninja go ninja go!

iconic.

what will people remember remember about OOTS 25 years later, i wonder.

reply

If nothing else at least the fact we finally got Bebop and Rocksteady in live-action.

If OOTS was made in 1991 with animatronics and puppets, it'd be one of the masterpieces of our childhood. It's the clear winner.

reply

I always wondered how Bebop and Rocksteady would've looked in animatronics.

reply

They'd be fantastic in animatronics. And think how phenomenal OOTS would've been if made in the 90's. The Brazil scene done with miniatures and actors in costumes going down the river. The Turtles on top of a Technodrome set, meeting Jim Henson's Krang puppet etc. It'd be the ultimate movie kids wanted back then, more than anything in SOTO.

reply

A puppet/animatronic version of Krang would've been awesome.

I'm a fan of the 80s cartoon and the 90s movies, which is why I didn't see the 2014 movie, but this 2016 movie is the best, and I'm really sorry that I haven't seen the 2014 one, something I plan to remedy soon.
