A black man as Baxter Stockman.. REALLY?? A BLACK MAN?!!
Baxter Stockman is a Jew and they have replaced that character with a black man!
Good going Michael Bay.

Baxter Stockman is black. #sourcematerial
It's how he was ethically portrayed since his first appearance. The only time he was white was the 80s cartoon.

While I agree with that and thought perry was great as stockman. Why is source material important when the character was originally black like stockman but not when the character was white like perry whote or jimmy olson or johnny storm or james bond(assuming he does get race changed) or nancy drew(thank god that show didnt get picked up) or jessica fletcher(same)
shareA reboot of Blade is in pre-production. Jason Statham will be taking over the title role from Wesley Snipes. ;P
Thit and thpin!
Simply put cause the sheer amount of white characters compared to black characters. Turning a white character black is just a drop in the bucket compared to turning one the few black characters white.
A boat that floats on water can also sink in it.share
April started out Black in the comics, too.

Some comics were more ambiguous but there is no mistaking this one. https://doknowbutchie.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/tales-of-the-tmnt-vol-1-7-april-1989-02.jpg
Not according to Peter Laird:
As the co-creator of the character of April O’Neil, and as someone who has always imagined her as white, and very likely of Irish/Scottish/English ancestry, I was not at all “unsettled” by the depictions of her as such in the various adaptations. Kevin may have had a different view, and I can’t speak for him, but that’s the way I always saw her. As for the coloring of her skin in the color reprints of the MIrage comics, Kevin always had a lot more input on that end of our business than I did, and in fact I’m pretty sure he did the colors on the initial such reprinting from First Comics, the one in graphic novel form. Make of that what you will.
Lol. The link you posted actually backs me up. You probably should have read it more thoroughly.
shareHe said she was white, a red headed girl of Irish decent. So take your own advice and actually read rather then project what you want it to say. Its not up to anyone besides the creators.
As a life-long TMNT reader I would notice if April was ever portrayed as black, your article, what you linked to, the author admits they haven't even read these comics nor do they have access, thats funny cause I have all of them right here beside me. They also go on to say that a perm proves she is black, thats also funny because everyone had a perm back then, in the late 80's.
Last, and this is a big one, the author of my article, the one I linked to, is a person who received incorrect info as you have, thats why they wrote this article, to correct their mistake, its not just in the title, its in the link.
"This is What You Want... This is What You Get"
Fine. I'll help you use your thinking.
In the article itself, Peter Laird lists himself as *CO*-creator of April, not creator...meaning that if his word has any weight, that weight is only %50 of the package. He even mentions that the ARTIST OF THE CHARACTER(Kevin Eastman) had a different view. Get it now?
That's like Stan Lee saying that he always envisioned Professor X having long, flowing Blue hair but Jack Kirby drew him bald. Who holds more weight on a character's looks...the writer or the artist? The writer...writes the character's life and personality...the looks of the character are up to the artist.
You're welcome.

Usually I agree when it comes to white or black washing characters.
But Baxter was black in the original. The comics that is and again in the 2003 cartoon.
Check the original comics, genius. Baxter is black in the true source material. And even if he weren't, what does it matter? They got an awesome and hilarious actor to play him in the movie.
I thought I was wrong once. It turned out I was mistaken...
Baxter Stockman was originally a black man, white washed for the cartoon.

He wasn't white washed. He constantly calls Shredder "Master" and his first appearance has Shredder overworking him for three days without sleep. They made a deliberate choice to change him to avoid the slavery connotations.

Interesting point, I never thought of this.
shareHere's the original Baxter Stockman from the comics: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/tmnt/tmnt_files/tmnt-profile-baxter-mirage.jpg
He was black there, just like he's been in every major incarnation except the 80s cartoon. And another fun fact is that his original plan was to bring down the World Trade Center by having his mousers gnaw away at the foundations. That was the threat at least if his demands weren't met.
Black people can't be Jewish? You do realize that Judaism is not a race, it's a religion.
