Meryl Streep Joining The Cast

I just saw that Streep is on-board for Season Two. Wow. Who's next? Jody Foster? Maybe HBO will shuffle Anthony Hopkins back and forth between Westworld and Big Little Lies. I'm actually feeling more optimistic about the second season.

How about James Franco? He could bring some authenticity to his role.

reply

Ah. The little screen. Hollywood's way of telling stars of the big screen that their career is on the wane.

There actually seems to be significantly more creativity and variety is premium TV programming these days than there is in mainstream cinema. You’re right that video is a destination for titans in decline; but it’s no longer a disgraceful retirement. Video offers the opportunity to work in some wonderful projects.

The movies are pretty much over now. The only way you can get a movie made is if it has Man (Spider Man, Iron Man, Ant Man, what have you) in the title, is Star Wars or James Bond.

I think now that might just be a good thing. On the late, great IMDb boards, I ran into a girl who was studying cinematography, and her instructors were telling her that movies were on the wane even then, and that streaming would soon be the place for releases. Possibly this awful virus will give theaters the shove over the edge they deserve, and we'll have the opportunity to just watch them at home. Paying ridiculous prices just to have the "theater experience" and to see a movie before it comes to Netflix isn't my idea of value. I was always willing to wait. Besides, aren't most of those stars wanting us to cut down on our carbon footprint? Why drive to the theater when we could have a pay-per-view?

And don't get me started on the "Man" movies.... 😡

reply

Yes, though on the other hand, I've been having conversations about the possibility of reviving the drive-in. Think about all the technological advances possible. :)

reply

There'd have to be a LOT of advances to get me to go to a drive in. I'm so old I remember when they were popular. The good thing was you could bring your own snacks and not have to be tied to the overpriced nonsense they served at the snack shack.

reply

Yes, and privacy.

These days you could have the audio come in to your car via a phone app and you could also use a phone to order food if you wanted. We were also thinking a robot could deliver it.
