Between Celeste breaking Perry's dick, Maddy puking all over the place, and Jane punching Renata, I'd say I had lots of fun with this one.
Renata and Jane finaly communicating was great to see. And I enjoy anything with the therapist, she's excellent.
I like the Ronata and Jane stuff too...shame it looks like Gordon is gonna screw that up, possibly.
I agree about the therapist, she's really fantastic and I always look forward to their scenes, Kidman is great in them as well.
Maddie's confrontation with Abby was another good scene, as well, and it's nice to see her unravel a bit in the sense of her owning up to her mistakes and not acting like she needs to put on this veneer all the time. Even though it was a hurtful truth to admit, I'm sure a part of her feels relieved for getting that off her chest in some way.
A urethra broken in two places 🤣! And limp noodle Ed wants one, too! Will Celeste lend Maddie the racquet? The physical expression of emotions, including the projectile vomiting and the eye-gouge, got ratcheted up in this one. It's heartbreaking to see how little Abby values herself that she'd auction herself online. It says a lot about the values she learned in her family.
I've never been a Nicole Kidman fan. I've never disliked her, just never sought her out. Her work in this has won me over. The therapy scenes give her an opportunity to act denied the other actresses. Her character has the courage to face devestating truths, which, speaking as one who has been through therapy, is damned hard, and every twitch on her faces just sells it completely. The actress playing the therapist is perfect. She is a good, kind woman who is calmly but desperately fighting for her patient's life. This is legendary stuff.
EDIT: Plus David E. Kelly's scripts have not put a foot wrong. Without a great script, you've got nothing. No wonder he gets to sleep with Michelle Pfeiffer.
I've actually always been a fan of Kidman. She got a lot of hate and I think her stardom overtook her talent for a time, but she seems like she's getting back into it and doing well. I'm glad people like you, who didn't care for her much as a performer, have seen glimpses of how good she can be. I've enjoyed seeing her deep in work again.
And yes, every thing got taken to the next level, much like you'd hope a penultimate episode would! I agree about Abby, it is sad that she did that...which I think was more a cry for help or attention than it was really about the charity or giving away of it. She wanted something to affect and get under the skin of her parents enough that they get real with her or show they care...and she got it!
I'm really liking Witherspoon in this as well. She's someone I never rated too much as an actor for whatever reason, but she has really shined in this as well. Wonderful performances by all the ladies!
I forgot to add: now Perry has physical documentation of domestic violence for a custody hearing. As far as I can tell, Celeste still hasn't told anyone about her abuse.

I am re-watching the Burning Love episode and I am struck by the fact that three of the four storylines, those involving Celeste, Jane and Renata, are about bullying. Celeste is beaten by someone physically stronger than she. Jane was raped by someone more powerful than she, and her son is suspected of bullying Renata's daughter. Speaking personally, and apropos of nothing other than that, this theme resonates with me very deeply. My mother had a boyfriend in the Mafia, whose colleagues called him Jimmy the Brute. He would beat her. She would stab him. I've always had nothing but contempt for bullies, because a bully is a coward, nothing more. Sorry for the rant. Maybe it helps to explain why BLL has drawn me in.
