Question about the Series.

I've never seen the Good Witch movies and was curious to see the new TV series starting tonight so I was reading what the movies are about, what the series is about, who's in it and all that good stuff. Don't really recognize any of the names except for Bailee Madison and Matthew Knight. He was on a Disney Channel show called "My Babysitter's a Vampire". And he was in all of the Good Witch movies. He played Brandon Russell. Now that character is being played by someone else. Does anyone know why? I was curious to see Matthew Knight again. I enjoyed watching him in MBaV and now he won't be in the TV series. And the actress that played his sister in the movies will be reprising her role in the TV series. Anyways, I just wanted to know if anyone knew why he wouldn't be in there. I'm gonna give the show a shot and see if it's any good.

You recognize the lead, right?

One possibility -- other than the actor having other commitments [this is a major reason why the dad is written out] including possibly college -- is that the show takes place about ten years after the last movie. This is seen by Bailee Madison playing a character we last saw as a young child. So, Brandon Russell might be a bit too young.

No. Never heard of her. But thanks for the response.

Oh okay. She was a regular on "NCIS" and "Army Wives," two American t.v. series, for numerous years. But, isn't such a famous person that is too surprising.

jmatrixrenegade she wasn't on NCIS. She was on JAG as Colonel Sarah 'Mac' Mackenize which NCIS was spun off from. Mac started in season 2 but she did do a season 1 ep as Lt. Diane Schonke a friend/love interest of Harmon 'Harm' Rabb (David James Elliott) who gets murdered.

But, Hannah Endicott-Douglas is still playing Lori, despite being too young to play a character who is in her late twenties.

Rethinking the subject, I think it is probably that he either had a scheduling conflict or they felt someone else was better for the series. Matthew Knight was no Chris Potter.

I do think with him getting married, and events skipping forward, the other actor looked fairly young while his sister had a somewhat more vague age. Still, we do learn she was in college in the last film. She doesn't look 30 here though might pass for mid-20s.

I'm not sure the intent is for it to actually be ten yrs in the future. They age kids to fit the storyline on tv shows. If it was ten yrs ahead George would be way too old to be doing repair work and Cassie wod be up there in yrs herself. They wanted Grace to be a teen for the direction they were going with the show.

"And the series is about 10 years since the last movie"

Senior citizens do repair work. The grandfather would reasonably be around 70. People that age could do some home improvement stuff.

reply

Very true. I guess in the long run not that important. Lori would be about 30-31 which there is no way she looks that. Brandon would be early thirties and married ten yrs and I didn't really get that vibe either. And it seems to be present day not 2023. I am thinking they figured more storylines for a teenager than a 6or 7 yr old. But again not that bug a deal. You are right about George though, my husband is 67 and does all kinds of fix up work.

reply

I think this could be a good reason - but I would have felt they needed to do the same with the daughter - she is playing a published journalist who still appears to be 12 yrs old....

Is Grace Russell supposed to be the child Cassie became pregnant with in the one movie? If so, how long is the time jump from the movie to the series premier? Thanks.

reply

Yes. I cited elsewhere an official comment that the show jumped about ten years from the last film. Grace was born in one of the middle films.

The time jump is needed to explain Grace now being in high school. But, no one else really looks much older and other than Grace, there really is no need for it. So it is a bit forced.
