I think the series is a pleasant watch so far & the continuing story nature of the series (each episode not merely an isolated whole; even the guest stars so far provided overlapping stories into two episodes) good. It isn't grand entertainment or anything, but it is pleasant enough. Don't expect more out of Hallmark.

Even her face has lost the cheerful expressions when she delivers her "wisdom", she just looks, to me,

The story takes place in the future when her baby is a teen and Cassie is older. Cassie still misses Jake, so it's intended to reflect a more somber main character.

Your botox story qualifies you to write for TMZ.
