shareHer husband was mayor and apparently has various managerial skills. She helped and actually has the drive to care about doing things necessary to get elected that many have no desire to do. So, that probably helped. It's also a small town so they need not be overly concerned about who is mayor. They figure she has the drive and will to do that sort of thing. And, at times, she shows signs of actually doing a decent job.
Who else was in competition? Cassie was mayor & easily could still be probably if she wanted it. Derek ran, but doesn't seem much of a threat. If she had some real competition, she might be in trouble.
In a town that small, they would all know her, and know that she's pretty much a self seeking blowhard. But I suppose if no one else wanted the job and she ran unopposed, as long as she got her vote and her husband's she'd win by a landslide. LOL
shareI think it's basically no one else wanting it & once her husband stepped down, they figured why not give it to her. If she had much real power, I'd wonder a bit more. Her husband also has a town job and maybe it's partially for his benefit.
shareShe could have really blown it though if she would have razed the historic buildings to put in some townhomes! It was rather funny that the realtor, Ryan, warned her the town would recall her.
Also, I don't know how far the other town was that is getting the mall, but it seems like it would be a good situation for them as well--close enough to go shopping for a day, but far enough not to ruin the charm of the town.
