My wife started making me watch this show with her. So why is it called the Good Witch? I browsed the message board but didn't see anything. I was sort of expecting something like Samantha from Bewitched but at best all I see are occasional implausible coincidences, no more than most other TV shows it seems. When I ask my wife about the witchcraft, she says "its not that kind of show" and just rolls her eyes at me.
Your wife is correct. Its not "that kind of show." It sounds as though she saw the movies and you did not. In the movies, she never did Samantha kind of magic, but she had an insight that was beyond the norm. She would also do things that left you wondering "is she or isn't she?". In one case, she was on a roof. Next thing you know she was on the ground quicker than should have been possible, and there was no ladder in sight. In another movie, there was a reporter who thought there was something fishy about her and was intent on proving it. He came up with a piece of video that appeared very incriminating, and many in town were freaked out. But at the end of the movie, she came up with a reasonable explanation of what people saw and all was well. That hasn't been the case so much with the series. She still has the insight, but I don't recall an instance of her actually doing anything that might be magical.
Cassie has a lot of paranormal skills, but no one can pin her down as being 'gifted' from a witch standpoint. They might as well have named it the Good Angel, since she only does good deeds.
