I only saw the first and maybe the second movie, so I know nothing about Abigail before she showed up last night. Can anyone tell me what she has done before to make Cassie's stepdaughter dislike and distrust her? And about how old is she supposed to be? She should be in her 40's but she looks (and acts) younger.

The OP asked about her STEP-daughter (Lori)....not Grace (who is her daughter). Though you are right about Grace not being born during that movie, so presumably there was a visit not covered by the movies, but Lori was there and Abigail essentially charmed her, caused a lot of trouble which worked out in the end though it was a painful learning experience for Lori and not the way in which Cassie would have done it.
Abigail tends to have an "ends justify the means" philosophy and can be heavy-handed with her manipulation whereas Cassie seems to be more guiding people in the right direction and hoping they make the correct decision for themselves.
