I'm speechless that this lights festival didn't have a Christmas tree or any sign of the nativity. It's obviously December! It's been fall all season and now is the first sign of winter. What other time of year could it be? What kind of politically correct garbage is this that there is no sign of Christmas at a lights festival?
shareCorrect me if I'm wrong, but usually Christmas trees are decorated on the Christmas Eve. In this season they did not celebrate Christmas yet, so, I'm guessing the Festival of Lights is somewhere before 24 of December.
shareIn North America, Christmas trees are decorated and lit a lot earlier, often as early as November. It varies a lot, but in a town like Middleton you can bet they'd decorate as early as possible. Hallmark Channel is usually all about Christmas, so your guess is as good as mine as to why they ignored it in this season's Good Witch.
Christmas is my favorite holiday and is the only reason I started watching Hallmark Channel in the first place.
I honestly just think it's politically correct garbage. They knew that this season would air in the spring/summer so they thought they could just gloss over Christmas with this secular lights festival crap. But despite what time of year it aired, it's apparent that it's December in Middleton and that they're ignoring Christmas.
I assumed it was still early November.
I think it's a bit of a gag with the writers that every second weekend is "The Most Important Festival/Event of the Year" in Middleton. So by my calculations they still have time for Veteran's Weekend (the most important event of the year),Thanksgiving Fest (which is the most important festival of the year) and maybe a Snow Fest (also the most important festival of the year) before we even see a hint of Christmas. I think we can only assume that when Christmas does arrive in Middleton it will be the most important event of the year. 😀
It was Halloween 10 episodes ago and has apparently continued to be the fall season. Plus lights festivals in November are generally Christmas themed to inaugurate the holiday season. To have a Lights Festival that doesn't acknowledge Christmas, it would still need to be early November. But that's a continuity flaw on a number of levels. There are no leaves on the trees anymore, Halloween has long passed, etc.
We had a Halloween episode at the start of Season 2, and from the colors of the leaves it's apparently been fall ever since until Episode 9 and 10 where snow is finally making an appearance and the trees are finally starting to look bare. So that's where I gather that winter is on its way and it's the beginning of the Christmas season. It can't be later than December or we would have seen a change of seasons sooner. Plus there should have been some sign of Christmas / New Years.
Great comment and very funny! I lived in a tourist town with Historic Main Street Designation and that town had a parade for anything and everything. They decorated all the stores on Main Street and all the light poles and the park in the center of town. It was all about attracting those tourists so they'd come spend their money. Every event/parade/festival was just as you say: "The Most Important Event/parade/festival" for the town.

It wasn't political correctness. The Lights Festival is a Middleton tradition that has nothing to do with Christmas. That's why there were no Christmas references in the episode.
The producers of the "Good Witch" movies and series have nothing against Christmas. The third movie, "The Good Witch's Gift", is a Christmas movie.
