Did not like this movie at all

The depiction of the bombing was so one-dimensional - no sense whatsoever that there were other victims, deaths, etc.

The pursuit and arrest of the bombers was totally glossed over.

Seriously, the script was totally one-note, and boring at that.

Having said that, the performances were quite good - especially of his family members.

But that did not save a very thin script - especially when the real life event that it portrayed was so dramatic all on its own.

But that event and the pursuit of the bombers had already been portrayed in Patriots Day less than a year earlier. It's pointless repeating all that. This film is a more personal story about Jeff Bauman.

reply

I watched it just this morning and agree. I thought it was one of the most realistic dramas I've seen in awhile. The characters were so expertly depicted as contemporary, everyday people.

reply

Yes, I was expecting the sort of derivative, tv movie-ish depiction that we usually get about this sort of tragedy. But it was a lot better than that. Probably because it was more down and gritty, tell it like it is. The people did seem more real.

reply

Yes, it was an interesting and fresh juxtaposition to Patriots Day, which I watched during the past two weeks and which was in the back of my mind during the entire film.

reply

Agreed. If you want a broader overview of the event, then there's Patriots Day, which is actually a damn good movie. Very underrated.

Stronger is a different kind of film and has a much narrower focus: We follow one man through his post-tragedy trials and tribulations.

Between the two I prefer Patriots Day, but both are good films.

reply

Ignored by the Oscars completely.
