Father was in debt ?

It's implied in the movie that the father was in debt:
1. Weird guy coming to see him;
2. Father seem to put money on games;
3. The fact he wanted 65k asap;
4. The crisis and his death after he couldn't get it;

But I Don't think it's said explicitly. What do you think ? I'm 99% sure it had Nothing to do with opening a restaurant.

Yeah definitely a gambling debt he couldn't pay. He was the worst father!! That phone call he forced Theo to make was one of the most tense scenes. That look on Theo's face when he realized there was never a savings account in his name with $10,000 in the first place. His father was planning to use him for money from the very beginning. In a world of movie villains who are evil and plan the perfect scheme that gets thwarted by the efforts of the hero, it was nice to see one beaten by his own stupidity and misunderstanding of education savings accounts.

Yes that phone call was so intense..right after the dad slapped him so hard.
I was glad the father met his demise, just so Theo could not be hurt anymore.

Can you tell me why there was blood in the bathtub in the ending scene? I know he shot the guy on the ground, and his Russian friend got shot in the shoulder....could he have taken his friend home to mend him? Thats where the blood was from?

The father came across as a pathetic loser who borrowed too much money from the wrong people.
