To me, I think its just the same point thats with all the vast array of similar films that are out there(and IMO, will only continue to be put out there for some time to come). Simply to show the "horrors" of which modern technology now easily allows to nearly anyone who has access to the internet.
I mean its true that in this day and age it is EXTREMELY easy to go about doing exactly what was done in this movie(and again, in the multitude of similar movies), where we see someone with a predatory nature using today's modern technology to their advantage in stalking their prey. To me, its as simple as that..is it an "original" plot for a movie? No.. is it an effective plot for a movie? Maybe, its all really just a matter of opinion, and preference.. but, obviously the more times its used as the subject matter for films, the more tedious, boring, and repetitive the films become.. its just the way it goes, and, IMO, its really the way its always gone, especially in speaking of the horror/thriller genre of movies..there's only so many storylines and plotpoints that can actually be considered "original", and from those there will always be a never-ending-supply of knock-off-copy-cat-flicks to follow.
