My attempt at explaining the ending.for those that have seen the movie

I see people complaining that we don't know who the hacker/ratter is. I think keeping us in the dark is kinda symbolic and done on purpose. Hackers are on a power trip and they love the fact that they can do sh!t without us knowing who it is. The part that bothered me was not knowing what happened to Emma, since we can't see what's going on.
Although, even that can be explained if you are a parent with a kid that you can't be with. Imagine talking to one of your kids on the phone and suddenly you hear a struggle and them screaming. You'd feel totally helpless. So, i think that part was added to *beep* with the viewers head. It shouldn't be marketed as a horror film. It's more of a psychological thriller.

SPOILERS:

My sisters best friend was murdered and her mother was on the phone with her as it happened. The ending made me go to that memory. Very disturbing.

As for the movie, it left me wondering if Emma was also stabbed to death, i saw shadows mimicking her being stabbed at the end, then he ducks tapes her feet. Definitely leaves you wondering.

Thank you for replying, Becky. Idk if you were also close with your sister's best friend, but if you were, i'm sorry for your loss. Did they ever find out who did it?
Yes, the end definitely makes you wonder what happened. I'm hoping there's gonna be a sequel. At first i was pissed that i watched the whole movie for that ending, until i really started thinking about the psychological factor. Ratter still sucked, but at least it wasn't a total waste of time. I'm also a big Ashley Benson fan from watching her on Pretty Little Liars, so that's another reason why it wasn't a total waste.

The thing is - at least for me - was that making it a random person really lessened the impact. I get what you're saying, and most likely the director was going for, but without any real identity to the protagonist, coupled with other characters just completely disappearing with no explanation whatsoever, the ending felt very unsatisfying. I felt like I watched a girl pad around in her underwear, along with lots and LOTS of shots up out of her handbag at her chin, for 80 minutes and then suddenly she was killed.

It was so dark could barely see who the stalker was at the end, Interesting point previous post about the stalker could be the guy at the bar who takes the photo. saw briefly at the end the stalker had dark hair and facial hair. But also in another shot of the stalker in the mirror he looks a bit red head. so maybe its the lecturer at Emmas college. weird one shot looked like a red head guy and in another dark hair guy.

i swear the guy at the club that they first ask to take their picture is the guy credited as "Stalker". he's the guy facing the bar in the scene and turns and faces the camera then they cut real quick to the other guy in the skull cap. also the guy at the end scene has short hair, slight 5 o'clock shadow, and a bald spot. all of which the guy at the bar as well has. considering the "stalker" is the one editing the movie together, it would make sense he would pop a frame of himself in there somewhere.

Call me crazy, but even though I've watched this movie a bunch of times before, and never thought that he could be the stalker, when I watched it yesterday for the first time in awhile, I swear I thought that he actually looked like Michael's roommate... the guy she met the 1st time she went to his apartment, one of the 1st times they hung out... anyone else?!
