This movie has killed “The Predator” franchise forever

This movie has destroyed the great mythology of the Predators for a generation. The entire going around the galaxy to assimilate alpha DNA into their own made them into half-ass Borg ripoffs, and it doesn’t even make sense. If they were changing themselves with alien DNA from randomly all over then why do they all look the same with the dreads, mandibles, and other characteristics. So, is that traditional Predator look not even their original appearance. It just goes against everything the Predators were shown as in all the other films as prideful and arrogant hunters who hated all non-Predators.

The 9’ tall, or whatever, Predator. How could they possibly top that in a sequel? By making an 18’ tall Predator?

As for the ending I can’t believe Shane Black actually thought an Iron Man rip-off vs Predator sequel would ever be made. “Predator” is not supposed to be a Marvel comic book movie.

I agree with what you posted, and understand why you as well as A LOT of others didn't like it. I never liked the idea of a more 'advanced' predator, as I think the concept of the creature in the first two films were perfect. The design wasnt broke and was interesting enough to not warrant an updated version. I get it.

The last 2 minutes or so was unnecessary, I agree. The first time I watched the movie, I hated the first half hour or so. Then, the loonies showed up and I couldnt help but enjoy it.

Im not disagreeing with you, since theyre your opinions. Just curious, what direction would you have taken The Predator in? I really didnt expect to like it, but id be lying to myself if I said i didnt.

Rewatching it now for the 5th time or so, and I just noticed the "Welcome parents and STDS" sign at the school lol. As a huge fan of the franchise since I was a kid in the 90s (the books, games, fan-fic, etc), I understand why people didnt like this. I almost wrote it off a year and a half ago when Shane Black said it was going to be a comedy. But I just cant help but enjoy it :) Id put this one above Predators, but less than Predator 2. Just my. 02

I'm not OP but I have an idea of how it could have been saved ( I agree with OP that it is ruined)

The movie should have started in the bus with the crazies, each telling their story of why they are there (they were a decent gang, conceptually, for the film) and ending with the last story coming from our hero who says "I saw a UFO ... and a killer alien" which causes the whole bus to crack up in disbelief, except maybe one of them. It gradually becomes apparent that these guys were bound for a "gone forever" type black-prison. They get the same redirection to the secret facility because they think Our Guy might have stolen something (which he has) and they are trying to make the weaponry seized from a Predator crashed ship work. A Predator shows up at the facility to take it all back and cleanse the place when it discovers skilled opposition. It allows most everyone to leave but fights the warriors fairly. Our hero uses his stolen tech to use Predator tech against him ... and loses in the end. Predator victory. Whole place ablaze in the end. No kid. No Autism. no stupid predator dogs, etc.

This was the logical conclusion. After the first movie, the franchise put itself into a corner. It really should had been just a one off type of story like The Thing-nonexistent excuse of a prequel not included for obvious reasons.

I agree, Harlem. I mean, we have the pred in the jungle, the pred in the concrete jungle, the pred in the rural america, the pred on ice, and now the pred in the suburbs. Oh, and the pred on an alien planet. In my opinion, Shane Black reinvented or 'changed' the direction of the franchise for the better. None of The Predator felt rehashed, cliched, or boring. I especially loved the pacing. The humor? Havent laughed so hard in a while. Not perfect by any means, but I enjoy it enough to rewatch it more that I did Predators. Maybe it's because Im a fan of Lethal Weapon, Last Boyscout, Monster Squad, etc, but this movie definitely echoed some of those same feelings I had when I first watched those movies as a child.
