The scene with

his 2 dogs and he breaks a bowl or something? What was going on in that scene, it made no sense at all.

reply

He was pissed off, nothing more.

What about the shoelace? Was it just me, or was that a metaphor for a hangman's noose?
The audience I was in found it a pretty laughable way to break into a car.

Normal is what people are until you get to know them

the shoelace scene was so captivating for some reason - I didn't look into any metaphors really...but I suppose you may have a point.

reply

U're supposed to "look into metaphors" in every film and work of art, moron...

Oh what a day. What a lovely day!

reply

Definitely metaphor.

He's lost his car with his uniform in it - all symbols of authority gone, all his tools of power, gone.

If anybody was to spot him, he'd look exactly like any lowlife trying to steal somebody's beater in the trailer park, and all he's got between getting away with the car and being totally screwed is this one lousy shoestring.

Hangman's noose might be foreshadowing, but in that scene I think the shoelace symbolizes his utter desperation.
