One of the worst “horror” movies of the past, I’d say, five to ten years. It seemed like it tried to be a dark comedy while at the same time being a horror.
The trailer completely misled the audience on what to expect.
this was the best time i've had in a theatre or with any new movie in ages. i thought it was a complete blast, goofy and silly and 100% entertaining.

Yes, exactly my point. This was labeled a horror and marketed as such. It was far from a horror however, by your own admission. If they marketed this as a goofy silly comedy horror then i wouldn’t have watched it and would’ve had no problem with my time being wasted from false advertising.

when i say it's goofy and silly, i mean that it doubles down on its outrageously fun concept in a way that made me incredibly happy.
i think it was tons of fun, and when the reveal happened, i truly lmgdao, but that was in unrestrained delight, not because it was a comedy.

Imagine suggesting a movie like dark city is bad because the ads failed to convey it.
You order noodles at a restaurant.

You have zero appetite for spaghetti today.
Because you spent the whole day craving noodles, and you paid money for noodles.
Therefore you are angry at the spaghetti in front of you.
Hope you understand.
I had the wrong dish brought to me more than once in a restaurant, I still enjoyed it despite it being what I wasn't expecting because good food is good food, regardless of preconceived notions about my dinner plans. I've also been to MANY restaurants that knowingly put a very unique twist on classic dishes, to give them a fresh twist. They are usually well received.

It's hard, inevitable part of advertising. How will I gauge my interest in movies without seeing a trailer? But then I love going into movies without a trailer too.
I do that with a lot of films and I pretty much always find it more preferential. No expectations. No spoilers.

shareGood horror movies are movies that put strong likable/relatable characters in dire situations. The "horror" comes from the fear of something negative happening to the characters. You need to have a connection to them and some level of care for the horror aspect to kick in.
Most horror movies today have sleaze ball characters who you couldn't care less if they died and you actually root for the "bad guy" When that happens, the horror is lost.

Session 9 (2001) is a good movie. Eerie atmosphere. Likeable characters.
Hereditary (2018) is another decent one.
The Sixth Sense (1999) Highly likable cast/characters.

A Quiet Place (2018) - Fine example of what i mean by likable characters make the horror movie. Movie is good and works as a horror because the characters are likable relatable and you care for them so the horror is there. Imagine this movie with a cast of asshole high school jocks and cheerleaders or such and imagine how insufferable the movie would be. You'll find yourself rooting for the Alien to kill them off one by one and the horror would be lost.
I liked when it went full camp.

You can tell this was a passion project for James Wan but yeah I didn’t care for it.
It’s okay enough as a goofy and silly horror (it’s certainly no Evil Dead 2 though) but I predicted the twist and lost interest when I realised there wasn’t going to be any scares as good as anything found in previous James Wan horror films.
Wan is one of the best horror directors right now and he’s wasting that talent with stuff like Malignant and Aquaman in my opinion.
