This Is Why We Cant Have Nice Things

audiences constantly say they want more original films and we get a good one in the nice guys and know one goes to see it

but will flock to see another jungle book and the 14th or 15th mcu film etc

The marketing department let this film down. Which is typical for original movies, they just don't know what to do if it isn't a remake, reboot, sequel.

The ads themselves were pretty good, they just didn't get played that often. WB has this problem where they place all their money in the wrong projects. Last year, they pushed San Andreas hard even though they had an actual Oscar winner in Mad Max. This year, they pushed Legend of Tarzan, a movie no one wanted, and ignored Nice Guys, which could have appealed to a wide audience and done very well. They also placed it at entirely the wrong time of year. Like, you're putting it up against Civil War? What the f#ck? A July or mid-August release would have been much better. It would have stood out against a really mediocre summer movie season.

it was a good film but hardly original.
The character pairing is basically every crime comedy by Black. The story reminds of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. And there was no twist at all

...but they hung him anyway.
Hanged, Ami. Your father was not a tapestry.

I saw a lot of commercials on TV. People were just not interested. I think a lot of people will rent it though.

Critic ratings and user rating were pretty good. I thought the movie was hilarious.
Only people on these forums talking bad about it, and these kind of people talk bad about anything. Their opinions are worth nothing. (Neither is mine, but I can admit it)
