Did we watch the same movie?

Lots, LOTS of negativity on this board. We rented it from Redbox last night and laughed all the way through. It was hysterical! Ryan Gosling is a natural comedian. He should do more comedies. Russell Crowe didn't look like his normal sexy self, but it didn't matter. He was a great straight man. They made a good team. I hope they make sequels. The only weak spots for me was Margaret Qualley and Matt Bomer. Maybe it's the character. Just didn't like her in this. Matt Bomer was not menacing enough. Small things. They didn't lessen my enjoyment of the movie. Anyway - I enjoyed it immensely and will be buying the blu ray.

I laughed when he pretended to being shot and ends up falling off the balcony

There's a veritable army of users on here who will defend to the death the idea that Gotham - a TV show where a child successfully fires his legal guardian, and personally negotiates the sale of his "own" company (he must sign the forms himself) to the city's criminal mayor, while the guy pimps his adopted daughter out as a honey pot prize - as a "gritty" masterpiece with "adult" characters, arcs, and themes. A show where one episode features a vigilante named "balloonman" whose weapon of choice is exactly how it sounds.

My favorite part is when a young girl with a lizard hand, given to her by a mad scientist named "Strange," who's working out of an insane asylum, is attacked by a freeze-ray wielding assassin, sent to stop her from revealing the scientist's work of creating a race of resurrected superhuman crazy people.

Truly, the Wire has nothing on this show.

IMDb suffers from an infestation of idiots.

it has some funny bits, but it's very violent. A bit too much for me, all those people getting shot or covered in blood.

Some people just don't understand the difference between "this is a bad movie" and "I don't like it."

If you can't defend a movie without bashing another, you will be put on ignore. No exceptions.

Thank you for your post. I think I will follow your lead. I posted negative comments for American Horror Story and was really surprised by the hateful, snarky comments I received. I shouldn't be so thin-skinned. Or maybe, just stop posting altogether.

I thought it was hilarious. I was impressed with the relationship between the characters, that they were imperfect and that Gosling's character was struggling as a single parent and making terrible parenting decisions. That there was a relatively realistic outcome. It was funny without losing its connection with reality and that things aren't always perfect and the good guys don't always win everything and wrap everything up neatly. As for Russell Crowe - I thought he did a great job of portraying the character he was hired to play, an older, disillusioned man who is letting himself go to seed. If he had been buff and looked like he was working out it would not have been true to the character.
