I get that major motion film companies want to make money. But there will be a time when people want to see something different. Solo bombing might be an example of that.
In the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, new franchises were being created and they worked well.
All of these sequels, prequels and reboots are getting tiresome.
Just create something new.
I totally agree. When I was growing up, at least one new movie would come out each summer with the potential to become a new franchise. Now, most of the great ideas are coming from TV or the internet, not cinema. I hardly bother going to the movies anymore.

The first Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser was the only watchable film and was a light-hearted nod to Hollywood’s golden age.

Or maybe we could move away from the monopoly of franchise film making. The cultural wreckage of the last 40 years or so wrought by studio greed and lack of originality is starting to pile up. I'm frankly worried about the anti-Star Wars cancer (mostly deserved) spreading to the original films themselves, which would be a shame, in my opinion.

I thought it was because big blockbuster movies, like "triple-a" videogames, were so INSANELY EXPENSIVE to develop, that they want to recoup the costs and not take risks, or play it safe and familiar in other words.
We need more modest budgeted, say A or AA movies, like Deadpool, Logan, Sicario, Split, etc. They feel fresh, unlike bloated movies like Star Wars.
