OT: A comment a guy said
To me one time was "there's more to life than a job". How condescending do you think that is?

shareThe only people who say that are people who are well off and don't have to worry much, if at all, about making money.

shareWell yeah... A job just pays the bills. There's more to life than that, obviously.
People who are making money doing what they love, they call that a career: They have happily dedicated their life to it.
There is a difference between those two.
Depends on the job.
Does he flip burgers, drop them on the floor, refry them and blow snot in the Patty’s special sauce?
I don't get it, how is the comment condescending?
shareI would bring up stories from my old job and he said "the majestic seems like its your life still which isn't good cause it isn't coming back". And I said "that's only cause I don't have another job yet" and he said "there's more to life than a job". It's condescending cause no shit there's more.
shareI haven’t been able to stop thinking about that comment for a while now. I don’t get why he said that. Of course there’s more like movies, music, sports.
shareI don't know that his comment is very accurate, but it sounds like he's saying that you have to move forward. He seems to think that you telling stories indicate that you are still living in the past. I don't think it sounds like you are, but it sounds like that's what he things just based on what you've said.
I think his quote is more appropriate for someone who spends all their time at work and neglects their family.
It sounds like you are trying to find a new job and simply remembering some of the good times you had at the previous job.
Sounds like you are actually quite healthy. It's not an easy things to do, but this might be one of those times you just have to nod your head and smile and then let the comment just roll off your back. It's not relevant.
lol, a more correct response to someone saying that "there's more to life than a job" would be to agree with them. "This is true", "yes, that is correct", "no sh!t, Sherlock", etc.
shareHe said other stuff that ticked me off too like disliking Johnny cash for being dead, saying that “rock music is dead”. Saying that the doesn’t like baseball cause of how many games there are. He said “162 might as well go for 500 then”.
shareDid he also tell you that "you are not your f*cking khakis."
???

There’s an extremely bizarre reason why I haven’t been able to stop thinking about that comment. My favorite movie is Zodiac and I can’t watch the last 40 minutes or so without thinking about that guys comment. The “the majestic seems like it’s your life still which isn’t good cause it isn’t coming back”.
