Star Wars Trying to be Star Trek

I have a theory that may explain why Kennedy's social agenda mission is failing with many fans.

She's not a real liberal or feminist, but a phony. Her true motivation is money, not true social change.

Man-bashing isn't feminism. And there was plenty of male bashing in Last Jedi.

Just sticking a woman in a movie with no character development or story isn't progressive. It's superficial. Name one women in Disney Star Wars who was well written.

KK doesn't appear aware of how she's reinforcing stereotypes in the movies with the Finn character. Why isn't Finn a weapons specialist instead of a janitor? Chasing a white woman (his constant flirtations) and being a coward are more stereotypes.

Lando, the flamboyant dresser must be pansexual. Give me a break.

Her narrow-minded opinion and disdain of the fans in believing they're all bigoted white males.

Star Trek is able to reach a diverse fan base because they're not playing lip service to equality. BTW, the next Trek movie will be directed by a woman. Star Trek does, not just talk. Yes, I know about the second unit director in Star Wars. Not the same responsibility.

Thoughts?

Star Trek ? you mean that horrible show Star Trek Discovery? welp, that worked out well....

You want good female characters? Watch The Orville.

reply

Dystopian ST: Discovery isn't Star Trek. I was referring to mainly classic Star Trek and Next Generation, but practically any Trek spin-off and movie handles diversity well. Vulcan saying: Infinite diversity in infinite combination.

I'm a huge fan of The Orville, the perfect Star Trek show.
Seth MacFarlane is also a Star Wars fan. I want him to do the SW sequel trilogy or TV show.

reply

Discovery is a huge success for CBS All Access.

Compare the IMDb votes for Discovery and Orville: 49K vs 32K.

reply

Its a huge succes for SJWs, not for actual Star Trek fans. The whole idea of Star Trek was that racism and sexism didn't exist anymore because of the future. And that all those politics are not relevant. What does Discovery do? Bring it all back. They bring back and use today's political issues and SJW crap into the series. I absolutely hate it.

reply

CBS has a problem because people subscribe while ST: Discovery is on and then cancel their subscription during its hiatus.

The RT stats are interesting because there's a similar conflict that Last Jedi had between audience and critics' reviews

Discovery: critics 81% audience 56%
Orville: critics 21% audience 93%

Both Trek and SW are out of touch with their own fanbase.

reply

Indeed. I agree.

Just look at how the fans embrace and love The Orville. I am also a Star Trek fan and The Orville is such a delight. My parents (also huge Star Trek fans) also love The Orville but despise Discovery (they tuned out after 2 episodes).

The same thing is indeed happening to Star Wars. Old fans just don't like it. Rogue One was great though, but the new trilogy just isn't something special. Its just the OT with new effects. Say what you want about the PT, atleast it had new ideas and expanded the Star Wars lore.

reply

Rogue One was filmed well, but it had no news ideas.

Young children are not buying the toys and I heard some parents say their young children don't like the new Star Wars. I'm beginning to wonder if Disney is turning off all fans.

I just pretend The Orville is Star Trek which it is except in name.

reply

Rogue One didnt have new ideas because it didnt need them. They set out to tell a story about the beginnings of the rebels and the beginnings of the Death Star. To be fair its a story that hasnt been told and its an interesting story. Its also just a all round cool movie with alot of Star Wars lore and it ties Episode 3 with 4 abit more.

I 100% agree with The Orville. Cant wait for season 2!

reply

"To be fair its a story that hasnt been told and its an interesting story."

Yeah, it's been told. Kyle Katarn stole the Death Star plans. He was part of the EU that Kennedy tossed. He was a much more interesting character than Jyn Erso and did a lot more.

I'm tossing Rogue One and going back to the EU.

reply

Not in movie form. You can't expect everyone to read the EU.

reply

They could've made a movie about him, but they want to promote heroines instead of heroes.

Kyle Katarn was in the Dark Forces and Jedi Knight video games. Those were great games because they were so immersive! He's also in several books.

reply

Seems like Star Trek is trying to be more like SW lately, actually.

reply

True. Both are best when they're true to their creators original vision.

reply

Star Trek? To me, that ended with Enterprise. I don't give a damn about the Abrams movies nor Discovery.
Star Wars? To me, that ended with the Prequels. I want nothing to do with Disney Star Wars, Rogue One excepted.
