This would be the first Star Wars film I've not seen. I liked Rogue One and I thought The Force Awakens was good. I admit it copied so much from A New Hope but I still liked it. That being said I so disliked The Last Jedi that I have a bad taste in my mouth and resentment for those leading these new films. Now that the story they are coming up with is to just rehash an old character and have a completely new actor playing Han? I have zero interest in that, I don't want to see young Han is some ship I don't even recognize.....the "almost" Falcon. I think rehashing a Han Solo character and story is a horrible idea and I have zero interest in seeing this.

I'm sure it will make money but it wouldn't surprise me if this is one of the lowest earning Star Wars films they will have.

It definitely seems to have the least buzz so won't be surprised if it underperforms (although I don't know what it's expected to do). I'm guessing the movie will cover how he wins the Millennium Falcon from Lando. That along with how he and Chewbacca teamed up I think it has potential.

Of course aside from a Jar Jar stand alone film there is very little they could slap a Star Wars title card on that I wouldn't go see.

I feel somewhat similar. The Last Jedi sort of turned me off to SW, but I also was never really excited about a Han movie in the first place. I would have much preferred an Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, or Vader film. I absolutely loved Rogue One so I'm undecided if I will go see this in the theater or just wait for video.

However, I don't have any doubt that this will make tons of money and be praised by all critics as all things Disney are.

When it was announced that Lucasfilm was sold to disney I was skeptical - then when they said they would be working on anthology films I was excited.

Then when I saw TFA I knew SW had gone to hell due to kennedy.

This film will have her grubby militant feminist mits all over it. You can tell she just cant STAND the Han Solo character and will do everything she can to ruin him.

This film has a high chance of being an absolute disgrace.

I don't know what to think. I'll admit that I don't like the new movies but the character of Han Solo was such a standout in the original trilogy. He's this kind of the space biker with a heart of gold but doesn't want anyone to know it. He'd talk about not sticking his neck out for anyone but it was all bluster. It's what made Han a kind of "lovable rouge" to fans.
Episodes 1-3 managed to destroy the former images of Darth Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett and Obi Wan. Han is one of the few classic characters who've they've managed not to mess up, so that's why I'm on the fence about seeing this.

We're talking Disney. Of course, they're going to mess his character up. They ruined him in Force Awakens by changing him from a hero into a deadbeat dad and criminal who abandons his wife and the fight to keep the Republic safe.

The Han Solo character may have been great because of Harrison Ford. Ford's charisma, humor, acting, improvisation, etc. The difference is between the real thing and a fake written by a company that doesn't care about art, just a profit margin.

I'm able to compartmentalize so the Disney stuff is a few rungs lower than Youtube fanfilms to me. The real SW is Lucas created.

Best synopsis I've seen about how Disney has completely whored out Star Wars. Thank you for the blunt assesment. It's what longtime fans think but are hesitant to say. Disney knows they can just slap the Star Wars lable on any piece of crap movie they churn out and they'll still make money. It's a travesty but Disney doesn't care.
I just thank God they haven't Interfered much with Marvel's MCU movies. The one time they did - Iron Man 3 - they got so much backlash that they've not done it again.

They are appealing to the masses. It's like pop music. Little artistic value but mass appeal.

Even as a lifelong SW fan, I would never say that SW is there for artistic value. It's great craft, but not great art. It's always been fairly basic popcorn entertainment with a lot of flash.

I don't know how you define great art, but I have always loved the amazing creativity, originality and visual aesthetic in the first six movies. It's one of the main reasons why I watch the movies repeatedly. None of the new films can compare.

I consider Lucas a great art director. He is the reason why the norm for special effects evolved from cheesy to realistic. The artistry is throughout his movies. The beauty of Naboo, the detail in Amidala's royal clothing, stormtrooper uniforms are iconic, fearsome Vader's mask, the unique designs of each lightsaber, aliens and prop designs. Add in the wonderful music, lightsaber fights choreography, and of course writing and it's like watching a moving art masterpiece.

That era has ended.

I'm the exact opposite. I despised TFA and found R1 disappointing overall. But I loved TLJ, despite (or in spite of) the useless Finn/Rose subplot. I also had no plans to see Solo but I got free tickets for me and my 2 kids, so there's no point in not going. Besides, my son is super excited about it so at least he gets to see it now.
