Man...this franchise is in such trouble.

It's still hard for me to wrap my head around this reversal of fortune. It's rumored that Disney may move this to a less competitive time of year.

Really?

Star Wars is having to run from other films now!

December again.

Only Lucas can save Star Wars now. We should start a pilgrimage to his house and beg him to come back.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m so glad that Lucas is having the last laugh.

reply

Its like poetry :)

reply

Eh, the prequels were mostly garbage. Have a crumb of real with your cgi overloaded films.

reply

The prequels featured wall-to-wall practical effects, so if CGI is the argument you’re making for why the prequels sucked, it’s an invalid one.

reply

Prequels also used a ton of green screen. Stop pretending like it didn’t. They looked terrible.

reply

And the original trilogy used a ton of blue screen. The presence of blue/green/pink screen doesn’t necessary mean CGI. It’s there for compositing.

reply

The point is, just because the prequels used a lot of practical effects doesn't take away from the fact that it looks like a turd. So many fake sets and terrible CGI.

reply

Loads of people loved the Prequels. While I hated TPM. I like AotC and I love RotS, its my favorite SW movie.

reply

I said mostly. The saber battle in Phantom Menace was great. I can not think of a single good thing about AOTC. ROTS was the strongest film of the prequels. There may have been some practical effects but you must admit there was a ton of unnecessary cg. Lucas was drunk with his use of CG in the prequels. That’s why JJ made a deliberate attempt to build sets and use practical effects, makeup in TFA and Johnson in TLJ followed suite. I havnt seen much of the Clone Wars animated series but I hear it’s good. Perhaps having that series as a supplement to the films made some people biased towards liking AOTC and ROTs more than the films deserved.

reply

I don't give a fuck about CGI. It was fine for the time. And revolutionary. I care for the story.

reply

He didn't though. He just said he did because the guy is a master snake oil salesman. The worst CGI in Star Wars history (at least relative to its era) is in TFA. Snoke, the tentacle thingies, the little Orange fucker. I mean Snoke is basically an old man and they used CGI and bad CGI at that! So don't believe the bullshit they peddled.

reply

The tentacle things did look pretty bad. Snoke was a hologram so it can kind of be explained away. What orange thing Maz?

reply

I actually don't think TPM is that bad, I don't think it's great but its certainly not horrible. Certainly better than anything Disney has ever churned out.

reply

hmm, TPM is better than TLJ, thats for sure. Storywise its also better than TFA. Still love Rogue One though. That movie is amazing.

reply

See I thought Rogue One was boring, it didn't offend me like TLJ and TFA did but at the same time it didn't leave much of an impact.

TPM was good on paper, the execution just wasn't that good although it did at least have Darth Maul.

reply

What they get for disappointing fans more than once. Hope they keep the trend going so they'll have to lay off those that are failing the franchise. They got the money gains but not the fan gains.

reply

I'm calling bullshit! Just googled...lots of speculation form months ago.

reply

Queeffan is nothing but bullshit. There are decent trolls on this board, but they aren't one of them.

reply

Couldn't agree more!

reply

I said from the getgo they wouldn't open two Star Wars films so close to each other. (nor should they) I won't be surprised at all if they move it.

reply

Especially when the first of the two films underperformed big time.

reply

According to Twitter users, at long last footage of some sort will be dropping tomorrow. It might be a teaser though as it's said to be only 45 seconds.

reply

Superbowl stuff?

I thought that might go to Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

reply

Yep, frustratingly being a British citizen, I'll have to wait for it to hit YouTube.

What are Disney doing? Is this some sort of marketing trickery? Everybody loves a good 'troubled production' backstory.

reply

They'll get to it when they get to it and we'll only see the best of it for sure (Whenever that is) but I have faith in Ron Howard, he's done some great movies in the past and that's all he's got to do again.

And he's friends with George Lucas, that might help 🙂

reply

True! I like your positive energy, this site could do with some more of that. :)

reply

I think we could all do with some more of that. Not this pessimistic vitriol which has become so popular days of late!

reply

Star Wars (the franchise, not the 1977 movie) was probably seen as being a little more special than it really was for a long time because there were so few movies in the series. This is what, the tenth one now? The fourth one in as many years. Star Wars is going to get a bad reputation and lose a lot of its 'cool factor' if this keeps up. They'll still be big hits for awhile but don't be surprised if the general public turns on it.

reply

To be honest, WHO CARES? Maybe it's time Star Wars and its reputation turned to crud. I think it's been vastly OVERRATED for 40+ years as it is.

reply

Disney is literally betting the "cool factor" won't vanish until they get their four billion dollars back!

The thing is, they obviously know that the best way to keep the franchise valuable is to make high-quality films that everyone in the world can enjoy, it's just that making films that everyone likes as much as they liked the original trilogy is almost impossible. So they're doing everything possible in terms of production design and special effects and casting, but of course none of that brings back the old magic without a script that hits the spot. So far... carried results on that front.

But I'm easy to please where space operas are concerned, I'll probably keep watching these things for a long time, even if I'm perfectly aware that it won't be the same.

China is only 25% take for the studio and Star Wars is not very popular there.

I'm predicting that this may be one of the biggest box office disappointments in recent history. This may struggle to make as much as Rogue 1 and there is still one more installment.

The expectations for box office are so high and yet so many people have been turned off by The Force Awakens.

The opening weekend may be below 150 million. Yes...I'm serious...there is a huge problem here.

Hey queen do you find it even a little but ODD...that you continuously have to keep changing your "STAR WARS FAILS" criteria?

lol

you have done this to with Justice League, Thor 3 and Black Panther.....

With Star Wars the film Opened 70 Million higher than you Expected and made 300 Million more World Wide than you were expecting....Yet you just moved The Goal Posts

With Justice League, The Film opened 56 Million dollars less than you Expected(you predicted 150 M +)..yet you moved The Goal Posts so you could claim JL is a hit

With Thor 3, You Predicted it was impossible and OFFICIALLY DEAD for Thor 3 to make 300 Million Domestically and 850 Million World Wide....Thor 3 achieves Both...you move the goal posts...

With Black Panther, the film opened 77 Million dollars higher than you expected(you predicted 125 M), Yet you move the goal posts...

do you ever get tired of having to backtrack due to your horribly failed Predictions?

I mean I get trolling....but I some point even you have to get tired of being wrong and constantly having to change your stance and opinions because exactly what you predicted or claimed backfired right?

I mean, take right now for example...you cant be looking forward to getting on the Black Panther board and reading all the posts from people brutally making fun you right?

you cant actually be excited about trying to think of a way you can claim Black Panthers 200 Million + opening weekend is bad right ?

at some point even trolling has to get old when you fail as badly as you right?

reply

Well...it's obvious Disney looked at the landscape and decided to keep the Memorial Day weekend release date.

It looks like they decided against December as they didn't want to step on two other super-expensive(the only budget Disney knows these days) holiday offerings Wreck-it Ralph 2 and Mary Poppins Returns.

They seem to just be resigned to Solo's fate as they already have their hands full when the $200 million budgeted Wreck It Ralph faces the $70 million budgeted The Grinch That Stole Christmas. Yup...not only is it from the Disney-killer Illumination...it's also a holiday film that will play strong throughout November and December. Yikes!

reply

Benedict Cumberbatch as The Grinch? I'm sold! His voice is perfect for the role, this is coming from a fan of the original Boris Karloff version.

Hopefully it makes more money.

reply

Oh it will be massive...even more so than usual for Universal/Illumination and at about a third of the budget of the average Disney/Pixar film. They aren't known as the "Disney killer" for nothin'!

Most of their stuff is crap, mind you, but movie-goers come out in droves for their stuff the world over.
