The soundtrack was absolutely amazing! I play "Is There Anybody Out There?" and "Maggot Brain" on the guitar practically on a daily basis, and was in awe at the way both songs were used in the film. I also noticed a couple Salem tracks, a Brian Eno track, what sounded like the theme song to Cannibal Holocaust, and a few other songs I recognized (one from a skate film I haven't seen for years haha).
My favourite song in the film though was "Before the Beginning" by John Frusciante. Believe it or not, I'd never heard that song before and that wailing guitar hit me right in the feels when combined with the main character's nostalgiac pining for his lost love during that scene while he's tripping on Opium and remembering it all.
That track sounded so similar to "Maggot Brain" that I assumed it must be another Funkadelic song, but it turns out John Frusciante wrote and performed that song on one of his solo albums as a tribute to Eddie Hazel and Maggot Brain!
I enjoyed the narrative of the film, although it was very sad for me as it reminded me so much of a doomed love of my own from many years ago. But what really floored me was the combination of a perfect soundtrack and Gaspar's amazing visual style. The way everything meshed together was amazing.
