try to kill his law partner? I missed the last few eps of the first season, as I wasn't really digging the show. But have tuned in this season and liking it much better.

His law partner was a pervert. He liked to hurt women. That's their connection to Charlie. Many years before Charlie was a pimp and I think he supplied a girl to Emma's dad's partner and it looked like he killed her so Charlie, Emma's father, and the partner were going to get rid of her. However, she wasn't dead so Emma's father finished the job with a shovel. That's why Charlie had some control over them, besides the fact that Emma's dad is bi-sexual. Then the partner did it again, so Emma's dad decided to kill him. They're not the 'Leave it Beaver' family. 😂
