Charlie's jealousy
Are we to believe, up to this point, according to the show, the killings were done because Charlie was jealous that Dennis Wilson was more interested in Emma than him?

shareNo, the whole Dennis Wilson part is set in April 1968, whereas the killings we're seeing are a flash forward to August 1969 as evidenced by those dates coming up on the screen.
Pretty sure that it will still be told as Manson wanting to start the race war and he is trying to frame the Blank Panthers for those killings (as he was afraid they were coming for him). He is already becoming annoyed that Martin Luther King Jr's assassination didn't start the race war he thought it would, so yeah they'll still happen because he wants to give it a helping hand I figure.
Edited Note: Dennis Wilson may still be in contact with Charlie for a while yet if they stick close to the real history as:

Record Mirror, December 21, 1968, interview with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys
I live in the woods in California, near Death Valley, with 17 girls. They're space ladies. And they'd make a great group. I'm thinking of launching them as the Family Gems. The way I met them was strange ... I went up into the mountains with my houseboy to take an LSD trip. We met two girls hitch-hiking. One of them was pregnant. We gave them a lift, and a purse was left in the car. About a month later, near Malibu, I saw the pregnant girl again, only this time she'd had her baby. I was overjoyed for her and it was through her that I met all the girls.
I told them about our involvement with the Maharishi and they told me they too had a guru, a guy named Charlie who'd recently come out of jail after 12 years. His mother was a hooker, his father was a gangster, he'd drifted into crime but when I met him I found he had great musical ideas. We're writing together now. He's dumb, in some ways, but I accept his approach and have learnt from him.
Except for his 'friend' who came to the ranch and he poisoned, have I missed a lot of talk from Charlie about a race war? I guess they're going to tie it all together. I know what really happened, but until the end of this episode, it seemed Emma was going to run off with Dennis Wilson and start singing with Terry Melcher. Didn't Manson pick Melcher's house because he blew him off (in reality)?
shareThat is what Susan Atkins said, however Tex Watkins said they knew Melcher was not living there any more. As prior to the killings Manson had gone to the house on several occasions and let it be known that he was looking for Melcher and was told at least once that Melcher had moved.

The word pig was written in victim blood on the walls of one home and the front door of another. There was also another phrase apparently scrawled in blood: Helter Skelter. The reason for the disturbing writings, the prosecutor argued, was because Manson wanted to start a race war and had hoped the Black Panthers would be blamed for the killings.

Today dawn in Washington, DC, was obscured by a layer of smoke from fires that continue to burn out of control.
Daylight revealed block after block of destruction in the capital and in more than 40 American cities.
The pattern is becoming familiar throughout the United States.
Tex! The cars ready yet? Tex!
(Naked) Naked we arrive, naked we survive.
All right, uh, we need to go to the desert.
Tex, we need to go to the desert today, find a hidey hole Are we ready?
Yeah, yeah. I guess.
Can we leave, Dennis? Just go to Europe, maybe Australia until it's over?
Until what's over?
The race war.
Now, now we're cool here.
They ain't gonna riot in Beverly Hills.
Charlie's right.
He always said the black man will get his revenge, cut the white man's throat, burn his towns, destroy white civilization. Cleanse the world for the family to remake the world.
