Why are two actresses credited with playing the same character? Patricia Krenwinkle and Katie?

"Katie" was the name Charles Manson gave Patricia Krenwinkle. He names Susan Atkins "Sadie".
Boston and Philly love to slander us, but they don t have as many fans as us

I understand Katie was Patricia's nickname. But IMDB says they are played by 2 different actresses. Patricia "Katie" Krenwinkel was played by Tara Lynne Barr and Patricia "Patty" Krenwinkel was played by Madisen Beaty.

The first one is only credited as Katie not Patricia Krenwinkel so it could be a coincidence I'm thinking it has to be since Charlie just met Patricia Krenwinkel in this season

I think the first one left the show since she's in that show Causal so maybe the actress this season is her replacement but I'm not sure if that makes sense though since they just met Patricia Krenwinkle played by the new actress this season. I don't think the first actress was supposed to be Patricia Krenwinkle since she's only called Katie kinda like in one episode there was a girl named Linda but considering the timing she's definetely not Linda Kasbian. I don't see Tara credited as Patricia Krenwinkle, only Katie.

If you click on the character name "Katie", the character page of Patricia "Katie" Krenwinkel comes up with both actresses listed. It may have been a mistake of IMDB or it may be that the producers decided to beef up her role when they found out they were getting a second season.

I clicked the actress before posting that last post and it says Katie not Patricia Krenwinkel that's why I wrote that. I'm guessing someone changed it, imdb can be changed by certain users I think and I'm thinking whoever wrote that just assumed.

I think Madison Beaty played one of Rayna James' young daughters on Nashville. I wonder if she is playing Krenwinkle as a youngster in a flashback on this series?

No she didn't. The daughters on Nashville are played by real life sisters Maisy and Lennon Stella. I know Madison was on the ABC Family show The Fosters back during the first season playing one of the characters girlfriends but that's the only thing I know her from.
